We live in a K shaped economy.
Downvote all you want, but unless you were fortunate or old enough to take advantage of opportunities from the housing market crash, crypto, or pre-covid, you're going to be fricked for a while.

The problem is wealth is much more concentrated in the top 10% nowadays,
This is the factor the OT always dismisses. Every related thread begins with self righteous responses about discipline, personal accomplishment, and if I can do it anyone can.
Within a few pages someone wants to check the math because the results don’t add up. Then the details start to leak and always include some combination of grandparents paying private tuition, parents paying for college, and the finish with a down payment as a wedding gift.
Then someone points out the responses kind of proves the OP’s point. In response those people say FU, helping their kids is expected and they aren’t going to apologize for other families’ poor decision making.
Subsequently, the thread concludes until it is inevitably rehashed a few weeks later.

I file Boomer Blame right next to talk of reparations.

People in the 60s and 70s had a war and gas shortage and 20+% interest rates. The hippies blamed old people and old people said the new generation was soft.
90s had the dot.com bust and aids and desert storm. Younger kids did the counter culture movement, but not as much complaining.
2000s had 9/11 and the great financial crisis. There was the occupy Wall Street/99%ers, then we had Covid in 2020 and here we are now electing socialist.
Basically, life is always tough for everyone. It’s tougher if you’re lazy or stupid. Every generation blames the one before and every generation thinks the ones after them are lazy or soft. Don’t fall into that trap of blaming someone else for your problems.
That being said, as a Gen Xer, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone complain more than young people today. Not sure if it’s because of social media and more places for them to bitch, or if it’s more that victimization has become in vogue.
You're so right!

You’re right. I’m on the back end of my life, but I have enjoyed a wonderful and prosperous life. I came from nothing, given nothing and now wealthy. What will be your legacy? Perhaps you should listen to the advice from boomers.

Well few can or more importantly fewer will, but it should be a goal. I’m just relaying what I did to create wealth. If not 40, then pay it off by 50. The most important thing is to never buy anything on credit. If you can’t pay cash then dont buy it.

Tell me you didn't live through the oil boom crash of 1986 in Louisiana without actually telling me
But some people think that we just trotted down the yellow brick road to get our start...

Maybe we can prepare next month’s thread. The Joneses: My neighbor buys a new car every year, he must be up to his nose in debt.
