What I love is that this oil trash would be the same type of people on the PT board preaching about how people should take personal responsibility for themselves...

After 24 yrs in the industry I have never been without a job but come Thursday it will be my last day with one. Being replaced with a local.

It's not so much of paying the bills that bothers me it's the insurance.

I am actually look forward to being home with my family full time and no stress of working in this industry.

I am partners in a business so now I will be home full time to keep it going in the right direction.

I guess I need to ask the Admins for a username change since I will no longer be offshoretrash.

I disagree. I think it is comical.

So using your analogy, electricity is a necessity unless in third world country so it should be ridiculously cheap. Cable tv is optional so people should be happy to pay outrageous prices.

Don't.

Keep it. As a tribute to all the trashy mf'ers like you who've been employed in the gulf for decades.

If you haven't purchased truck nuts, btw, hats off to you sir.

Thank you for your service.

I'm pretty highly educated and was an oilfield VP. After laying off about 70 people, I fell under the axe as well. I've been here a couple of times so it's not like it was some big shock. I took a paycut after that that's probably more than most of you will ever make in a year. It's the nature of the business and if you've been around awhile and aren't stupid, you go into it knowing it's coming eventually.
Oilfield is great on the way up. Sucks on the way down. Nature of the beast. Crying about it is kinda stupid because you're making better than most while it's booming. Don't like that kind of risk, go be a bureaucrat.

Nobody is laughing. Most benefit from cheap raw materials and cheap energy.

The people laughing are ones like the Schlumburger CEO that got an $18m bonus last year.

Frick off, not one of you fools were trying to help the rest when it was tough to fill up, did that affect the community? Now it's good for me, but I should have some remorse that it's tough on another sector? frick off, you do remember how this works right?

Hard times rite now for all of us in the industry. I'm 31 with 2 kids and honestly have no back up plan that will pay me enough money to live what I'd consider a normal/above average life. I was never making a fortune but enough to not count pennies and watch every dollar spent. Now, I was smart enough to save for a rainy day and I'm trucking along just fine. It WILL be back boys, just hold on tight! I feel like the longer this shite lasts the worse it will be for the consumer. At some point country's will begin crumbling and desperate measures will be forced. If they all hold out and continue flooding the market the only way will be to drastically reverse it.

It still sucks to lose your job and for a major LA industry to be on the downturn. Spin it how you want but it will eventually suck for a lot of local industry.

JJB I wish the best for you man nobody who is willing to work should be denied a livable wage.

Having said that the world economy isn't going to implode due to low oil prices. In fact it may jump start industry as a whole.

Furniture used to be the thing for uneducated labor in Lexington NC. Now that has moved onto China.

Textiles, etc. The US is a service based economy now figure out something you're good at doing and provide a service that people want.

Alternative energy sources will be utilized more in the near future. The Petroleum industry will not die, but it will not be nearly as much in demand in a decade.

It's going to go ape shite as soon as a new president stops sucking the Iranian cock.

The situation over there is so complicated the things you'd think are one way are actually the opposite. And once it's all going south, the Russians are going to make it clear they're on their own side. And their side is pegged to the price of oil.

The Saudis are still in the drivers seat and that seat makes strange bedfellows. It behooves the Russians to have a big insane war between the Shiites and the Sunnis. Oddly enough, this is also the scenario that we require over there and damn near everywhere else on the planet. Luckily, they are all more than happy to accommodate us all.

Iran sinks one single ship in the gulf and the price skyrockets. And no matter what the world does to retaliate, EVERYONE including the Iranians will benefit from it if they sell oil. OH NOES WE SUNK SOME IRANIAN NAVY DINGHYS? They just made a billion dollars. The Russians made 10.

Get it?
