In a mall food court diversity is grand, when it comes to a company like Boeing I have no idea what it even means other than discriminating against white males. And for the CEO to make it their prime corporate focus is retarded. Just hire the best people and build the best products. Shareholders need to start pummeling these clowns.

If I'm running Boeing my prime focus is on building great airplanes.

I don't care what color the people doing the work happen to be.

The Indonesian Max had an issue on the last leg back to Jakarta the previous night. The CA disengaged the Auto Throttle, AP, trimmed the plane manually, and flew the plane to Jakarta without incident.

Those things are a lot easier to do in level flight. It’s much harder to manage when taking off or landing.

The 737Max is over-complicated as a result of stretching the original design to save money instead of getting a new airframe certified. Couple that with a training program that doesn’t take into account the new over-complications and unleash the plane on the world market and sell it to airlines the pilots of which are not trained nearly as rigorously as US pilots and you have a recipe for disaster.

Meh. Diversity is fricking retarded

“Diversity” in and of itself is fine, diversity just for the sake of diversity (what most of the big corporations mean when they mention it) is retarded

It amazes me how many aviation 'experts' we have here on TD.

I'm being sarcastic to some point, but the truth is that pretty much everyone in this conversation knows a hell of a lot more than me about commercial airliners. I couldn't pick a 737 MAX out of lineup from any other model or even a AIrbus airliner.

I buy a ticket on a plane, I get on board, I arrive at my destination. That's about the extent of my research.

No, frick weeping vaginas like you who are obsessed with quotas and feelings. No one is against diversity. No one gives a shite (except for libs like you) about skin color or sex. People want planes designed by the best engineers. Only lib scum like you put diversity quotas over merit.

Diversity or inclusion are generally nothing more than euphemisms for “no more white guys”. These racist euphemisms are vomited out by self loathing racist liberals who are so racist they think non-whites are incapable of succeeding on merit.

Did you notice how many Middle East history and policy experts inhabit Facebook lately? So many experts proud that they know Iran was once called Persia.

Except they didn’t and don’t so that’s a little problem with your meltdown.
They didn't build an airworthy plane because the higher-ups instructed them to build a plane that shouldn't have flown.

Looks like Boeing is the one making decisions on race and sex instead of merit
This is not a school, Boeing is a corporation. They make decisions based on profit.

What we do know is they designed a plane that doesn’t fly too good. Spin it how you want.

Hilarious that the truth is "spin", while the argument that the "women and non-whites built a plane that doesn't fly" argument is not.

I think quotas are stupid. But it turns out that diversity of workforce is profitable. You can choose to accept that obvious truth, or you can choose to believe that giant corporations the world over are ignoring their shareholders and are doing things that do not optimize profits (at least in the short term, which seems to be all shareholders care about these days).

Have you been around here very long?
quote:

People want planes designed by the best engineers.
That's what they're getting. The problem in this case is that the engineers were given parameters for a plane that were not, uh, optimal. And the people in charge knew it, but they pushed for it anyway.

Call me what you want, but I'm not pushing for quotas. I'm just telling you that the quotas are not the reason these planes are shite.

So they built an airplane that crashes to make more money? That’s a bold strategy cotton let’s see if it pays off.

quote:

Boeing lost $5.82 a share in the second quarter of 2019, with revenue falling sharply as well to $15.8 billion. Boeing's quarterly loss is the biggest in history for the company, according to FactSet, topping a $1.6 billion setback during the financial crisis in 2009.

But the CEO says diversity is one of their prime goals, why wouldn’t it be making money?

Well, it's selection bias. Outside of the usual hurr-durr shitbag trolls that infest this place, most people reading and replying in this thread are interested in the topic and would be expected to know more about it than your average OT dweller.

You just cannot put a price on safety

Sorry man, but this is stupid and wrong. We put a price on safety in everything we do. We could spend another $100 million per plane and definitely reduce the number of crashes and fatalities. A system that overrides pilot input when a plane has reached its operating envelope would have saved lives every year. We don’t have that because it would cost too much.

And the idea that a commercial aviation manufacturer should not be run by “bean counters” is also foolish. I’m an engineer, but business is a different discipline then engineering. When the story of the 737 Max is finally written it will be a story of greed and incompetence, two attributes as common among us engineers as among business majors.

I hate the racist diversity quota shite that your people foist on the world. And Boeing’s CEO proudly panders to that. So yeah maybe I’ll park here for a while.
