I don’t care if the police were completely professional and the dead guy was a complete a-hole that got violent and it was a “ good shooting “. I still want to burn down the ATL. The important thing is that we indulge our emotions.

Nope.

Thats good. I see conflicting reports
Where is the entry wound(s)?

Running, turning, aiming a taser at the officer. Part three of that sentence negates any legitimate concern about “Muh shot in the back”. Regardless, let’s still burn down the ATL. We need the emotional catharsis.

My guess from the video would be the side of the rib cage. He turned his shoulders, shooting the taser at the officer and the officer shot back.

I ask bc the GBI director had said “Mr. Brooks turns his body away from him -- I presume to flee," Reynolds said. "It looks like that's when the discharge happens."
Wasn’t sure if they confirmed where the entry was yet

From all the videos I have seen the shots were fired when he turned and pointed the taser toward the officer. It is possible to turn and point a weapon while you are actively attempting to flee in the opposite direction. I know that is possible, because that is what the videos show.

So I finally caught up with this case. I heard people comparing this to the Walter Scott case. In that one, it's on video of the cop shooting the man in the back as he runs away. The cop got sentenced to prison over that one.
If I remember the facts correctly(I may be getting his case mixed up with another one), if I remember correctly the officer lied and said the victim stole his taser, when in actuality it was found that the cop planted his taser on the victim after the fact.
Obviously in this case the victim truly did steal the taser, and tried to shoot the cop with his own taser while running. My question for any legal experts, if the cop were to shoot the perp in the back, but the perp never turned around to fire the taser. Would this still be a legally justified shooting or not? I am genuinely curious. Is the perp legally considered a threat if he never points said taser?

No. He turned and fired the taser at cop and was shot.

I'm no legal expert, but they would still have a heavily intoxicated man who is violent and out of control. That man is fleeing into an area where citizens are. He is a clear danger to himself and others, is armed, and has already been tased at least once with no affect.
It would be a compelling case.

Not really.
It’s a pretty clear cut case.

Having a bullet hole in the back means you were shot in the back. You’re saying this guy won’t be found to have a bullet in his back?
Did you hear GBI director Vic Reynolds press conference?

Even while turned, the bullet could still strike him in the back so what’s your point?

The only thing compelling would be the racial makeup of the jury

Watch the videos. Pay particular attention to the locations of both officers.

You have to go back a few pages to follow my point
Police are issue tasers as a non lethal option to subdue criminals.
This drunk guy is fleeing from two police officers, with the same weapon that’s issued to cops as a non lethal option, and fires the taser while fleeing.
So my “point” is, one the drunk guy is fleeing, two he has a taser deemed non lethal by the very people who shot him dead, three there are two cops with actual guns, four being shot in the back always provides a case in court. Hence my question if anyone knew if he was shot in the back. People said no he wasn’t but the GBI director alluded to something different

None of what he says matters one bit now since the Mayor demanded the officer be fired immediately and threw the police chief under the bus. For now, GBI will default to the message the mayor is presenting to the public. All that matters is what the GBI presents to the DA.

I know what you are saying, but SOP and protocols (which have been challenged in the past and upheld) state that, in the hands of a suspect, tasers have the ability to incapacitate an officer, leaving them defenseless for a period of time that could leave them exposed to deadly attack if a suspect gets the officer's gun or attacks them otherwise.
Being that this suspect had already been tased at least once with no affect, another taser shot could not be expected to incapacitate him.
