leaving them defenseless for a period of time that could leave them exposed to deadly attack if a suspect gets the officer's gun or attacks them otherwise.

Was he defenseless? There is a 2nd officer right there with him. Coupled with the guy moving in the opposite direction of the cop who fired. Idk man

Look, I understand why the cop shot him. It’s a split second call. I’d just hate for the guy’s life to be ruined over something he could’ve prevented. Even if nothing happens to him, he’s probably still going to be scarred and ask “what if I did this differently”, bc I’m sure he never wants to take a life

That's irrelevant now. The guy did manage to deploy the taser, but it missed the cop, actually glancing off of his arm (That was stated in the part of the initial interview with his superiors immediately following the incident). He didn't just turn and aim, he deployed the taser. There are clear cut SOPs and use of deadly force protocols that outline this very situation. The officers followed those procedures correctly (according to all video released).

And look, in recent events, the suspect's side of the fence has demanded release of all available video. The officer's side of the fence have always stated that they only saw the end result of the interaction.
In this case, we have everything documented from the 911 call to the initial post action interview. All of it is either on multiple videos or recordings. Everything is out, and it all points to proper handling of the situation.

WWKD?

What would Keisha Do?

Are all remaining ATL cops supposed to call her in any situation before making any move?

Officers are trained if someone gets ahold of the taser, since if used against the officer can incapacitate them AND then get their gun,to treat it as a deadly assault.

This is what officers who try to show compassion get. He wasn't rough with the criminal, didn't throw him to the ground. He calmly tries to put his arms behind his back and that gives the criminal the upper hand and allows him to start the scuffle.

I challenge any of you to ask your most loved one what you should do if someone aims a taser at you and you have a gun on your hip against a violent criminal... I'll wait... And so will they because chances are you're not coming home if the criminal gets the gun.

If the DA charges that officer, it will be a fricking travesty.

Those eyewitnesses are full of shite.

If that was me in the heat of the moment and he turns around in a firing motion, I’m definitely going home to see my kids that night.

four being shot in the back always provides a case in court.

If you fire a weapon at police officers and then get shot while running away, you have no case is court.

They should use the video in schools to let kids see if you act like a wild animal and pull any kind of weapon on a cop you will get shot!

He was shot in the back while fleeing. That's not justification under any definition of the law.
