Do BMW owners who work on their own car even exist? I’ve never met one

screwdriver for this will be on Temu in a week.

This is the biggest non-issue I have seen move from the automotive press to the mainstream in a long time. Over the years, I have added removal and repolacement tools for: metric, torx, security tork, e-torx, spline, hex, ecx, 6 lobe, pentalobe, square, square/slot, triangle, Y type, tri wing, s type, clutch, spanner, along with a army of tools to remove and replace various hose clamps, hoses, and electrical connectors. This doesn't even mention all the electrical and OBD2 diag equipment.

Car are getting more complex and for various reasons people love it since you see almost no poverty spec cars being bought. Furthermore, most people opining about this across the internet don't even own a set of e-torx sockets and weren't going to get very far under the hood of a German car anyway.

German engineering at it's finest. Make it so complicated that it breaks down easily and then make it harder to work on at the same time. Well done.

The type of people who couldn’t redneck their own solution to this were never going to fix their own cars anyways.

Don't know why they keep trying this, people will figure out ways or create a tool that works and it will be on Youtube.

What’s the big deal with screws? A competent machinist could crank out a tool for that in no time.

It’s not screws that makes them hard to work on them, it’s the designs.

There was a BMW X5 for sale near me one time. It was cheap but needed a timing chain set replacement. I researched what it would involve to go in and do the repair. Needed special tools galore. Between the price of the parts, the one time use tools (for me as I’d not do another) and the pure pain in the arse to do the work… it wasn’t cheap enough.

There's a reason you see FB Marketplace full of 15-20 year old Bimmers that look great, yet have absurdly low prices.

So you will have to bring your BMW to a BMW dealer to get it fixed. Prepare thy anus for financial sexual blackmail.

Same.

All kinda stuff I've bought over the years for cars and RVs that are for a specific purpose/vehicle.

I bet Holman-Moody had a few trick tools themselves.

It will be trivially easy to custom order a driver for this head. These "security" bits accomplish nothing but extra steps.
