And to be clear I'm picking it out among a lot of vanity-driven stuff. Bad art, music, celebrity worship, other entertainment.

It stands out among all of that as particularly useless. I honestly don't even think you can make some argument that avant garde fashion trickles down to useful design or fashion. It's been the same ridiculous, ugly, useless shite for decades.

To take it one step further, if your life's role is to write or critique high fashion, you have to be among the most useless humans on earth. Film critics are bad, but this is beyond that.

We are descended from apes. We have simian features and make simian expressions. Especially at moments of high emotion. People need to get over saying that comparison to an ape is racist. Especially when it only applies to people of a similar skin hue. I can do a pretty decent monkey impression and hop around while squatting. It isn’t racist.
