quote:what is the name of the judge?
Judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison but suspended all but 2 years. He walks out of the court room a free man after his guilty plea.

The IRS needs to look if he paid taxes on the money he recieved for those contracts. Would they consider him a small business?

Don’t know which judge had the case, but honestly most of our Jefferson County circuit judges would sign off on something like this. In Shelby, St. Clair or Blount counties there is probably no way you get off with 2 years of time served on a charge like that.

He would have gotten more time for tax evasion than he did for attempted murder.
Only way I can see that plea deal for time served going down is if they didn't have enough to convict him.

McDaniel is paid to kill a Birmingham firefighter. He walks into a fire station and shoots two, killing one.
I was a couple of blocks over on the sidewalk when this happened, emergency response shut down delivery to my jobsite. Could have been me.

Yet another example of we don’t have nearly enough people incarcerated…… for the we have too many incarcerated crowd.

That took a little digging. But eventually I came upon this jewel. The judge who released him after two years despite him pleading guilty to two counts of attempted murder was this distinguished gentleman.
Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge David Carpenter.
Judge Carpenter describes himself this way:

"I’m liberal trash too, and I’m your worst nightmare. I’m an elected official. A far left, liberal, progressive, democratic socialist, white ('traitor to his race') native Alabamian," Carpenter posted on X in February.

He owes Eddie Murphy $50 for stealing those lines from 48 Hours.

Here is another article where this judge denied any culpability following the Five Points shooting.

Carpenter argued that McDaniel's deal that allowed his early release was with the DA and not the court. However, according to the Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure, a judge has the ultimate authority to accept or reject any plea agreement.
Carpenter, who regularly posts online about far-left issues and once called himself “liberal trash,” has a history of letting violent suspects back on the streets. He also granted a Bessemer inmate bond for reckless murder in the death of a female minor. That inmate, Raukeem Cunningham, of Lipscomb, was later charged with shooting three people at a gas station over Labor Day weekend.
Carpenter’s response to pushback online has been to double down on his partisan posting.
Not only did this judge release someone who shouldn’t have been released, and who he had the authority to keep in jail, but this judge also thinks it’s appropriate to post about a case he was assigned to on social media.

That’s pretty egregious. Does Alabama not have a judicial commission?
