Bill Maher comes in off the top rope on how parents side with the kids over teachers now. Pretty scathing in my opinion. And I agree with him. Parents and teachers need to instill more discipline.

Maher has questionable takes, but he is far and away more pragmatic than any other of the liberal “journalist.”

Every teacher I know, liberal or conservative, wants the ability to legitimately discipline students. They would absolutely love to get major behavior issues out of their classroom, because its hurting students who are there to learn.
The issue is, anytime you do actually discipline a kid the parents fight it. And from being in schools at both ends of the spectrum it doesn't matter whether the kid is a poor Black kid or a rich White kid, both fight it. The rich White kid's family fights it to keep it off their "academic record" because they're applying to college. The poor Black kid's family fights it because they say their kid is being picked on because they're Black.
And the school district is terrified of both kinds of parents. They don't want to get in a prolonged, potentially legal, fight with either. I've seen threats of lawyers getting involved over a kid who got wrote up for cheating on a quiz with his cellphone. It's absolutely absurd.
The mentality that your kid is always right and you're the only person who should be disciplining your kid has permeated across multiple societal lines and gotten utterly out of hand. People try to pit it as a left vs. right issue, but it's all the way across the board.
