The coronavirus is taking a toll on mental health. The number of prescriptions for antidepressant, anti-anxiety and anti-insomnia medications filled per week increased 21% between Feb. 16 and March 15, 2020, according to a new report by Express Scripts, a Cigna-owned CI-2.8% pharmacy benefit manager. The study analyzed prescription claims filled between Jan. 19 and March 15 of this year among a sample of more than 31.5 million commercially-insured individuals, and found that claims peaked during the week ending March 15, when the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.

Anti-anxiety drugs saw the biggest spike, jumping 34.1%, which was more than double the number of insomnia aids (14.8%), and almost twice as high as antidepressants (18.6%).

Express Scripts noted that this is a sharp u-turn from the 12.1% decline in the use of anti-anxiety meds like Pfizer’s PFE-2.25% Xanax and Roche’s RHHBY+1.35% Valium that it recorded between 2015 and 2019, as well as the 11.3% decline in the use of anti-insomnia meds during that same window.

When every aspect of our society is currently structured to scare the shite out of you to the point where you don’t want to leave your home, this isn’t surprising.

Social isolation also will worsen and trigger more of this. Add in millions with no jobs facing financial struggles it will only increase

Most non essentials take estrogen and wear dresses while real men work

Alcohol sales have to be through the roof. I've been drunk almost every night.

Due to the recession from 2008 to 2011 we had in America 1450 suicides over baseline. If anyone thinks this won't be several orders of magnitude worse they are mistaken.

True but like scruffy said it doesn’t help when the media(main stream and social) as well as the government is trying to scare the shite out of everyone, as well as virtue signal and sensationalize.
