Yes, that is a possibility, they were horrible in Albuquerque regardless of what you did. What made matters worse, they seemed attracted to the swamp cooler which is open during warmer months in the ceiling, and those stay constantly wet.

My mom lives up in north Louisiana and hasn't seen a rain (to speak of) in several weeks. I never connected the lack of rain to the influx of roaches.

I've been spraying her house about once a month but the big red cockroaches are in there and I pick up a dead or dying roach or two every morning.

If this keeps up, it looks like we need to get her a professional.

The big ones are American cock roaches and supposedly only come inside looking for water. The little ones are German cock roaches and those are the buggers that nest and are hard to get rid of
My pest control guy told me big roaches and big spiders are what you want to see. He said the infestations happen with little roaches and spiders.

New tenant(s) may have very well brought them with them from their previous abode.

We called them Palmetto bugs. They come from the outside. They don’t typically nest indoors.

Hopefully he prayed while he sprayed.

I hear that technique is very poor at preventing unwanted pests.

I had a terrible tenant once. When he left I put 2 roach bombs in the attic and 4 in the small house. The next morning I came back to hundreds dead but also a line of live roaches lined up at around 3 inches from the ceiling, throughout the house. I assume they found the spot where the fog was the thinnest. Had to go around and spray them individually.

You haven't lived until you see one of your children learn the hard way that roaches can fly.

My wife (no pics) and I (no pics) lived in an apartment building the 30s. Had a huge roach problem. They said they’d tried three different pest control companies with no luck. I found they were coming from and old oak tree when the sun went down. Sprayed the tree and any place that looked like a roach might live with a triple concentration of cypermethrin (you can buy it online). Never saw one for the next year and a half.

They are getting through holes. Under the Fawcett etc. Tape up all cracks and holes. By a large can of Bengal roach spray. Ones in your unit will be dead by dawn. Bengal roach spray is the best on the market.

Cut down all the trees and brush within a few hundred yards. As a kid back when pesticides like DDT were available to homeowners, dad sprayed several times a year and in winter we had them coming in from outside. Large black ants came in too. We had 10 large oak trees just in the front yard.

They love piles of leaves on the ground, so if you have any near the home, it’s likely filed with the things.

Buy Advion cockroach bait from Amazon and place it around the rental. We had roaches in New Orleans and I bought the 4 pack and put it around the house. We never saw another roach and we were there for 5 years.

I second this. We lived in the same house for 10 years, then all the sudden we started seeing roaches. I used the Advion and never saw a roach again. It's been over 5 years. I would highly recommend this stuff.

go to a farm/ranch store and buy some permithrin. there is 4-5 brands you will not know, just buy based on cost/concentration. use a liberal concentration spray inside/outside and for some reason the dead roaches will be on their back. Spray is good for 4-5 months. And it's effective on the little German roaches if you spray 1/month. Now if you're looking to get the termite use Basf Thermidor pricey about 150 bucks a quart but a correct application is good for 15 years. If you know you have a termite problem use a turkey baster for the thermador application and drill holes in the sheetrock. Easy to putty and paint the 1/8 inch holes

When I see a big one I kill it then I take the bengal roach spray with the red tube and go spray around the windows and doors.

Keeps them out. Or I’ll randomly find one dead at the back door.

Works for me.
