Kind of a difficult ask to do first off on the first Saturday when your krewe has been the big draw on Saturday night for 40 years AND much of your appeal is your light features.
This is horrible, it really is. We go to both New Orleans and Metairie and are involved with another Metairie krewe. I am with the folks who say a 500 member krewe (not insignificant) that ups and shuts down after 40 years? something else is in play.
Zeus did the same thing a few years ago, they still had a respectably-sized membership, but so much conflict on the board that Metairie lost its oldest parading organization.
Family Gras at Clearview was, of itself, not a bad idea, lots of off-street parking with security both private and JPSO.

Caesar was a great parade. I'm happy to see them fold instead of just hanging around with lower standards.
I thought they should have tried to jump Uptown years ago when they started bleeding members.
I know at least 15 guys that used to ride in Caesar that jumped to Thoth or Endymion about ten years ago.

What exactly do you think happens at Mardi Gras uptown?
My parents took me to Mardi Gras uptown all the time when I was a kid.
I don't think I attended a parade with more risque themes until I moved to Baton Rouge for college and attended a Spanish Town parade.

Fri: Excalibur
Sat: Open Slot (I assume Isis moves here)
Sun: N/A
Second Weekend:
Fri: Centurions
Sat: Isis
Sun: Napoleon, Athena, Pandora (One of these probably move up a day)
Losing Caesar is a pretty big hit.

Meh. Caesar's floats and themes lend themselves to a night parade. They could roll the first Sunday evening perhaps.
But I think they are done, done. I honestly don't see any of the current Metry parades moving to NOLA. Caesar is the only one that might make any sense from a size point of view, and it's made up of people that don't want to parade in the city.

Caesar was pushing 900 members when there were only a handful of parades with membership over 1k. Now there are many parades with thousands of members. Hell there are 3 all female Krewes with membership in the 2k, 3k range.
Carnesi would rather walk away than roll some 300 member crap out there.

This is true. Zeus also didn't think the rules in Jefferson Parish applied to them, and had some financial issues as well.
And my issue with Family Gras at Clearview is timing. If you start the parades there, the parades are just warming up when it passes. And if you end the parades there, the night parades get there too late to really make it family-oriented.
The Lakeside spot was a perfect time in the day and time in the parade for it.

Jefferson parish has done this to themselves with their fines and shite. Instead of allowing 2 krewes who ride the same night to meet the requirements together as far as float numbers and amount of marching groups, they instead decided to fine them all to bankruptcy

The parade themselves may be family friendly, but having to park in the ghetto and walk 6 blocks with multiple kids just to get to the beginning of the parade route which has a lack of available retail and restaurant establishments for using a bathroom other than a port a potty is not very family friendly.
The beginning of Thoth is family friendly as far as the whole experience goes, the rest is largely not worth the trouble until kids are a little older

Still spread too thin. If you can put two-three small parades together, you will get more people out there and attract more bands/groups.
Here is what I would do, all on the first weekend
Friday: Kings (assuming it comes back), Excalibur
Saturday Night: Isis, Pandora
Sunday (start around 4 pm): Athena, Centurions

Excalibur got to Family Gras at a good time, and when they disbanded only then did headliner Tom Jones come on. Lots of folks stayed until the end. Excalibur's after-parade party was set right next to the stage and Excalibur ended up paying for a DJ who didn't play but about a half-hour from 11:30 to midnight.

Potential young members aren't living in Metairie, and the ones that are, want to ride it city.
I know plenty of 30-something and 40-something family mem who live in Metry, and ride in Thoth, or Carollton, or even Alla. Those are the people who traditionally would ride in Caesar.

Napoleon is gone, their last parade was 2018. The founding captain died late 2017 or early 2018, they had the parade together so they paraded, but it was supposed to be their last year.
Excalibur is holding steady, membership-wise, and do all kinds of promotional events to draw riders. They are at 400 or better.

Metry parades have been dying a slow death for years. I remember in the high school band marching every night for two weeks in Metairie. Now you may get a couple of weekend parades and that's it.
If Caesar is gone, non Mardi Gras day parades in Metairie will soon follow.

It seems like the ship is sailing on Metaire being its own separate civic entity. New Orleans would probably be a lot better off, had that never happened, but that ship has long sailed as well.
