There were a tons of rumors late last year and earlier this year that with 2019 being Caesar's 40th parade, they were going to call it quits after this ride.

Turns out those rumors are true.

I would think this is the beginning of the end for Metry Mardi Gras.

I can see more of these parades moving to New Orleans routes for the first weekend, of course bringing tons of Ronnies and Lonnies out to the Avenue with them.

Figures. One of the few family-friendly parades in the NOLA area and it's getting axed.

This sucks, I live about a block from the parade route and this was the only Metairie parade that was worth going to.

I've maintained the only way to "save" Metry Mardi Gras would be to consolidate everything on the first weekend. Moving the parade route and moving the festival was beyond stupid.

Have anyone who wants to parade in Metry, with the exception of the Mardi Gras Day parades, roll on the first Saturday and Sunday. Put the festival back where it was, and go back to the regular route. Make it a big weekend.

I think there are other issues with Caesar though. 500 member parades don't just fold up shop for no reason.

When? There's a good number of parades on that weekend already uptown, and for the most part they're better than anything Metairie parades have to offer.

ETA: Glad I stuck it our through the rain to catch Caesar's last ride though.

My wife has family that ride in Caesar and they always talk about how cheap the fees are to ride compared to how much my wife and I pay to ride Tucks. I’m sure they’re steamed about the news now.

Caesar could move to the first weekend Uptown. The Saturday parades start with Pontchartrain at 12:30. Caesar could roll at 11am that first Saturday easily.

Yeah I get a kick out of it when people say this. They think the whole route in New Orleans is basically Bourbon street.
You can say that they are a pain to get in and out or that you dont like crowds but to say a parade in New Orleans isnt family friendly is just incorrect.

Yeah, the people that say that are usually the ones that came to Mardi Gras 15 years ago when they were single and went to the Quarter.

That's not a new issue. Bingo has been basically dead for almost 20 years. I would have thought that whatever adjustments to dues they needed to make, they would have done it by now. But maybe not.

Or people that have never actually been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and only see what they see on TV and the Endymion Extravaganza on Channel 4

As is, thinking a bunch of ronnie trash hanging outside Daiquiris on Vets is the epitome of "family friendliness" by contrast.
