What exactly is being segregated? StG area is still a part of EBR and never was a part of the city of Baton Rouge

But if and when new school district is created, some neighbors won't be going to school together? Will the new school district allow other students not technically in St. George but basically in the perimeter to attend?

Seems kind of fricked up to separate a little kid from his neighborhood friends when they start school? Basically a bunch of adults letting their petty differences and squabbles impact their children - like a bad divorce.

The Southeast BR ISD boundary was already signed into law. Once they get the MFP dollars approved this will be the new school district, and it won't matter which city you annexed into or out

That is excellent, happy to see they aren't trying to split up neighborhoods.

You need to educate yourself on how this all got started. Hint: it has nothing to do with race.

Other than Central, Baker and Zachary, you can't go to a school near your home.

That definitely ain’t true.

That area and those kids will be in a much better position with new and better schools.

So they can ruin them? Look at the area they live in? You know why Areas like that are horrible? Because the people (not all, but enough to make it the norm) destroy everything and turn it to shite because they have no skin in the game and don’t care.

You can take a brand new apt complex and make it section 8 and it will be a complete dump in less than 5 years

ya ... how DARE people try and let underprivileged kids improve their life through quality education.

on helping that family!
Thanks, but LSUGrrrl gives me way too much credit.

We exchanged a few emails over the time period she was going through their adoption process where all I I did was answer some of their questions about Russian culture and bureaucracy. (And where they could probably watch the 2007 LSU/Alabama football game in Moscow. )

My part was to help her anticipate how they'd be treated as foreigners by the Russian bureaucrats so they wouldn't get rattled by it along with some thoughts about how they could avoid some culture shock.

I'm grateful she thinks I helped them but my part was extremely minimal. Still, theirs is a heartwarming story with a beautiful result.

Court ordered forced busing ended over 10 years ago. The school system was declared in compliance and the deseg lawsuit was signed by a federal judge in July, 2007.
The only kids in EBR publics are black and hispanic. No more need to worry about diversity, I suppose.

I heard Broadmoor High school does not have a single white student. Can anyone confirm or refute that nugget?

If true, that is nuts, considering the neighborhood

Fact is, BR could have annexed the SG area long ago.

They didn't, so here we are.

Tara high is like 6% white kids in a middle of a neighborhood that's probably 85% white.

Yeah it's crazy. These maps have some "gerrymandered" looks to them.

I don’t know how old the numbers I’m looking at are, but here is the breakdown by race

Black - 77%
Hispanic - 10%
White - 6%
Asian - 5%

All I'm saying is that area falls within the new proposed St. George school district and if it passes, those kids from underprivileged areas and families will have the right to benefit from the new schools and hopefully better themselves and their neighborhoods.

And I’m saying that until they learn to value education and have support for it at home, nothing will change.

Tara High's district runs from Gus Young to the U Club. It's definitely gerrymandered. That's what we are zoned for.
