Tied with that, the front page story on the local fish wrap is that the parish council has denied a request to put a hold on zoning decisions until the representatives of St George can be involved.

That comes off as a prelude to some frickery such as what was mentioned in another thread about Bryam, MS, having a ton of large apartment buildings zoned there because they didn’t want to be part of Jackson and that was Jackson’s revenge.

Does that mean If my house wasn't part of the annexation (Im still in Baton Rouge), I may still be able to find a path towards annexation?

Yes it does. And I think there's a plan being discussed in St George to do so. Watch their facebook page for details.

If properties get annexed back into BR and then end up with some issue that would require brpd or brfd to respond but they fail to timely respond or don’t respond to what kind of liability would it open the parish to?

Pretty sure they already held off a similar case from Woody Jenkins who claimed that annexations stretched BRPD too thin and put him in danger when calling for a squad car.

Her house DID flood, so she knows what that feels like, and STILL tried to play on the fears of the 2016 flood victims

She just tried to use the excuse that One BR didn't attempt to petition people to annex into BR because of the 2016 flood. As if an event 3 years ago prevented them from petitioning residents to do so.

Didn’t OneBR exist in 2015 when the original St George petition started?

So how did the flooding affect that?

Unfortunately the map does not include the early votes which supported St.G by 1100 plus votes. if you add those into the mix who knows what the map would look like. they do not separate the early votes by precinct. It roughly breaks down to an addition 20-35 more pr st. g votes per precinct.

They aren’t smart enough to realize this and/or they are hypocritical bastards doing this because of “frick you, got mine” because their kids are in the EBR magnet program and they don’t want to risk that.

All of this is in vain. The boundaries of the ISD were already signed into law by Jindal before SG was even an idea. The city they reside in doesn't matter.

Not only that, but they're assuming that the Metro Council is just going to rubber stamp all these annexation requests (assuming they manage to get the signatures they need). That would mean having to extend BRPD coverage - a department that is already woefully short on officers - out to those areas, possibly also BRFD. Will they want to do that knowing that they are already looking down the barrel of a substantially decreased budget? That may be cutting their nose off to spite the

Several years ago I believe Chauna Banks wanted to investigate annexing more subdivisions into BR, and Kip Holden advised her not to do it because BR couldn't afford to extend police and fire protection.

Now maybe things have changed, but 5 or 6 years ago BR didn't want more residents to join the city. At least that was the mayor's position.

What these folks fail to realize is once they get annexed into BR, they will pay both taxes for fire protection since the millage for SGFD was already in place.

It was Denise Marcelle.

Kip Holden Hates Annexation - NOLA.com

quote:

Holden told the Business Report Marcelle didn’t understand how the constraints of the budget prevented the parish from properly incorporating those areas. Holden said annexation of those areas means the city would have to provide additional public services, like law enforcement and sewage.
“We have a top-rated fire district,” Holden said. “For us to provide free fire protection to Gardere would jeopardize that rating and would be cost prohibitive.”

I thought there were voting issues that prevented the white SE areas from being incorporated because it would dilute the minority voting power in BR. And that’s why none of it was ever added to the city.

That hag lied on camera, saying that if St. George passed it would affect federal flood relief.

What she didn't say is the flood insurance could be cheaper in St. George if it adopts more flood prevention measures than Baton Rouge.
