What about future prospects for promotion?

She was a virgin into her 20's. She is conservative and doesn't wear makeup or anything. She is about a OT 6

i did get promoted. However the pay is the same regardless of where I live. So why the hell would i still live in Seattle
I could have picked a cheaper area than Houston to move but its the closest market to my family

OP, do you think she is marriage material?
I imagine if you were to move to SF, break up with her and try to find somebody with similar conservative ideals in the Gay Capital of America...you may have a tough time.

Yes she is marriage material. She has a good personality. Good with money, pays for me from time to time. I think I found a keeper. The job in San Fran is a top 10 firm. I'll just interview and see what happens. Don't need to speak about this too soon

Girls love the "I'm just a good ole boy from Louisiana in the big city" schtick in places like SF/NYC, etc. A normal nonpussified straight guy in SF would probably be swimming in pussy.

Fair enough. This board will obviously skew in favor of Houston, but it really is a damn good city for a professional career.

Having just moved back to civilization from that hell hole I have to say Houston and it's not even close.
$1k per month could potentially get you a roommate situation with some Berkeley students, but it will be a small room in a s***hole house built 70 years ago. Even Oakland rents are sky rocketing. There's a reason you see 40 year olds with 2-3 roommates.
As far as jobs go, anything outside of an engineer for a big tech company will pay you only marginally better than Texas. When you factor in the state and municipal income tax then your take home pay in Texas will likely be the same for most roles.
Cost of living extends well beyond rent as well. Get ready for $150-$200 bar tabs on game day. In Texas you won't remember a thing on a night like that. In SF you'll maybe get a heavy buzz. Restaurants are absurdly expensive and even sites that used to be free in golden gate park now have entry fees. The city is broke and it shows.
Last point, if you do go to SF be prepared to be ostracised if you are anything but the most liberal of liberals. If there's one thing they hate their it's diversity of thought. If you believe that your tax dollars shouldn't go to free sex changes for your community, then you're better suited elsewhere.

I like and appreciate Houston (which beats the hell out of Philly and most rust belt shite holes), but San Francisco and west bay are awesome areas. My company is based out in San Mateo, and I honestly enjoy having to go there. There's a big BART/CalTran station at Millbrae that takes you right into the city. Lots of great food, entertainment, and pleasant weather.
It would cost a fortune to actually live there, but it really is a cool city with a lot of young people. You should try to spend a few days there to see if it is worth it to you. It is likely that you will seriously have to consider multiple roommates.

GF shouldn't be part of the equation unless you're about to marry her
And even then, is her job so crucial that she can't move?

What line of work are you in? Seems like you have a good amount of mobility; assuming you're working for the same company and/or industry in every spot.

Lol
SF blowed Houston out of the water when it comes to just talking about the cities.
This is Alabama playing the Browns bad discussion.

This is such bad advice. Of course you will like most places when you simply visit.
I go to Portland for a week once a quarter for work and enjoy myself down there and have a good time. But thats just visiting. Living there is completely different. I doubt i would enjoy living there.
It wasnt until i lived in Seattle for a month or two until things started to grind my gears. There was a honeymoon period for a few weeks and then reality hit.

From my experience the only thing culture means is the scent of piss and shite everywhere because people relieve themselves on the middle of the sidewalk
I found that Seattle was much cleaner than San Francisco in that respect. Like most cities, Houston is cleaner than New Orleans, but IMO it is still pretty dirty.
The weather in California attracts a lot of homeless and street people. They have a real problem with it in some areas. The state spends a lot of money trying to manage it.

To be clear...you are recommend not visiting areas before moving there?
I have moved to new cities a half dozen times. I always spend time there before moving to evaluate the benefits, drawbacks, and scout places to live.
