Give him the bike..... When he goes to get on the bike push him over and give him the peoples elbow.

I only read the OP so this may have already been said by others.
What I was taught (nearly 30 years ago) was don't start anything but if someone starts it with you then kick their arse. The standing rule of the house was that if u followed that directive all was fine. But if u instigated it u got ur arse beat at home. If the other person instigated it and u lost out.... u got ur arse beat at home. I felt both sides of those consequences but they taught me well.

Tell your son to study his hands before responding to the bully. Would make a difference on the type of response.

Teach em to punch hard as they can and they may get hit back but the bully won't pick on them again.

5 year olds. They will end up rolling around on the ground for about 20 seconds and someone might get his shirt collar stretched out.

Put him in Martial Arts.
He will learn how to handle conflict and be able to defend himself.
(Make sure it a reputable dojo and not some bullshite sport karate one)

I also think that it would make things worse. It gives the bully extra motivation and ammunition to single out the kid. You can't solve all your kids problems. It seems like a last resort if things seem really bad and probably should be done through the school. I guess it can be hard to judge when that is. A lot of kids internalize this stuff and won't communicate when they have had too much.

Careful what you tell them. My 10 yr old came home saying a black kid on the bus was constantly messing with him. Slapping the back of his head and getting in his face and just antagonizing him. I told him to punch the kid in the nose.
He failed to mention the other kid was in kindergarden.

Teach him a monologue of the most gruesome disturbing things he would do to the bully that a kindergarten child should never know. Like " if you don't get the f*** away from me, I'm going to stick my foot so far up you a** that it comes out your mouth. Then I'm going to toe punt your mother in the p***y so that you get a face full of mom muff. So go sit your a** in the corner until I tell you it's okay to play again". Two things could happen. Kid would freak and leave him alone, or it does nothing and someone will get to witness the hilarity of a 4 year old saying that.
