Give your son a pack of chocolate exlax. Have your son give the bully some "chocolate" tomorrow. Have your son and his friends sit back and enjoy the shite show.

There are 2 answers: what we did, and what should be done today.
We were taught by our fathers to not start it, but to defend ourselves. There is nothing wrong with that thought, at all.
You gotta be real careful in today's mindset though. With the ultra liberal/ PC/ SJW movement, your kid hits a bully and is immediately tagged as a bully himself. I think it's bullshite and it pisses me off that it comes down to that. But the best option is to get teacher involved first (with you telling your son to defend himself on the side).

There's a great deal of bullying at private schools too

I'd like to say your answer is right, but with shitty zero tolerances policies, your kid is just going to get suspended or expelled if he throws the first punch. Going to the teacher is useless as well because for some unknown reason, bullies seem to survive zero tolerance policies....

I teach my kids that I will whip their arse if they start it but to not tolerate someone bullying them.
My daughter was getting bullied by another girl even after we talked to the school it continued. I told her I didn't want to hear about it again, if she does something to her punch her in the nose. Well sure enough the girl started in on my daughter so she hit her as hard as she could right in the nose. She never got bullied again by anyone! It's amazing how a little blood and pain can stop a bully.

I scrapped a lot in kindergarten. Spent a lot of time in the principal's office. Tell kid to stand his ground and be ready to defend himself.

Too little right now. Just tell a teacher.

Quit being a helicopter parent and let him deal with it.

See, that's where I'm not sure. Not that a kid shouldn't be able to take a little bit of bullying and learn to be a better person from it. But at that age, the other kid can maybe not turn into a huge douche. I know parents that are pretty alright people who's kids get shitty when it comes to sharing, etc.. If it's not brought to their attention, they can't correct it. So I can see asking the teacher to inform the parents. Not in a you should lock your kid in a cage sort of way, but in a way that lets them know there is something to work on. My kids only in daycare, but I'd want to know if he was the kid biting and scratching all the other kids so I can maybe fix that.

with kids around a certain age some are gonna bite and some aren't and there's nothing really you can do about it. It's sucks when your kid gets bit and sucks even worse when it's yours doing the biting but an 18 month old isn't going to understand either way.

K is not the 8th grade
Inform teacher and then inform teacher you are also notifying the principal just to get this on record( now the teachers knows they will be observed in how they handle bullying in general) Ask for the policy on bullying.
2. If it happens again- enter principals office and ask if they are going to handle this or will it be necessary to take legal action (again you are just getting this on record)

Make a mock ISIS beheading video like those idiot capital one employees and have your kid show it to his tormentor and tell him he's next.

Hardly, my sister in law is ready to leave Catholic school because of the bullying. It's just the Bullies are the parents with money who manipulate the principle into thinking their kids do not wrong.

I understand that daycare is maybe to young for them to understand. But up to about 2nd grade or so (randomly pulling that out of my arse), I think a kid doesn't always truly understand the consequences of the way they act. A little direction from a parent or teacher and they may stop doing it. Yes at a certain point, they may just be engrained with a shitty personality, but that young is too young to say "deal with it on your own". 7th grader...yeah, maybe punch him in the throat. 4 year old.... maybe get an adult to have a talk with him.

Go to the teacher first and put it on record that you tried to let the school deal with it. If it happens after that then let him deal with it.

Same thing happened to me. My son is big but very nice. Some kid pushed him at the water fountain and then bit him very hard. Obviously they recorded the incident. I told him next time he needs to push him back and scream in his face as loud as he can so the other kid knows you aren't scared of him. So he did and the teacher actually said it stopped after that. The other kid is now a giant pussy at school.
