Looking at getting a vehicle to let the oldest start driving to school.
She really wants a Wrangler but that's not happening. (Though I found a clean TJ Saraha in Mississippi for under $7k. )

Wife thinks crossover suv I think car. Like VW Jetta or Civic.

I know a lot of y'all been through this.

ETA The fact that they’re a teen driver will matter WAY more than what they drive. Prepare your backside.

Just tell her he is going to take girls into the backseat if he has an SUV and she will cave on the car.

I mean, he is going to get girls in whatever seats he has... so it doesn't really matter.

Quote from my buddy who is in the insurance business.

No convertibles.
4 door is better than 2.
No V-8 or turbos / sports edition / GT.
No standard trans.
Not red. (He said he was serious)
No Jeep.
Nothing exotic. Doesn't sound like you are shopping BMW's or Porsches.

Figured it’s good a be an affordable sedan with no frills and cheap.

But you trade safety with all the crazies out there.

I would find a good crash rating mid size SUV that doesn’t break the bank. If you can afford it of course.

Insurance for a jeep is surprisingly on the lower side

It's a TJ not a YJ. My bad.

There is a 2001 for 6500 in Mississippi that I mixed that one up with.

My dad always told me no red too. I guess it's true.

I avoid exotics anyway. I'm looking at 80k-130k mile vehicles here. Nothing new until they get a scholarship.

Here’s my experience with teen drivers

I was paying $3100/yr for just my wife & I. My teens (twins) joined the plan & it went up to $10,000/yr. One of the kids got into a wreck a month later, I now pay $14,000/yr. I carry full coverage on all 4 vehicles.

They can’t get out of my house and off my policy fast enough!

A jacked up wrangler with large steel bumpers is actually a good choice. It’s not if they’re going to have an accident, but when. I wrapped my oldest in the biggest, strongest, steel available. Geared 4:56 with 35s. Top speed was about 75…so no tickets. A normal accident will only scratch the bumpers.

Mine is getting my Wrangler Unlimited next month. That’s only because it’s paid off. The insurance is gonna be terrible, but that’s because I’m insuring 4 vehicles and have 19 and 16 year olds. Good thing gas is cheap…never mind.

What kind of comp and liability coverage? When I put my 17 yr old daughter in my progressive policy I went from paying 3K to 7k per year. Honor student driving a Volkswagen Jetta. I had 100/300/100. This in in EBR parish.
