re: Best stories when leaving an employer?

I don't know about now because I've worked for the same company for 27 years now, but this was back in the 70's when I think they couldn't wait for me to leave.

I told the new head coach "I know what you are going to say, and I do not accept your offer at the middle school. You can open up my position, today is my last day in athletics, I will not be here after this conversation. You can't win here, you will be on this side of the desk in 3 years. Most likely because you were fired for not winning or you pull your typical stunt and come to a new job only when you see a great freshman team (Ours went 9-1 that year we got canned, his last job the freshmen went 10-0 the year before he got there, once they graduated e left). You stay until the talent runs dry then you jump ship looking like a hero."

He couldn't even muster up a response.

The first job I quit, I was working construction building sea walls. We were finishing the concrete and helping the carpenters set forms and poring concrete. It was hard work and nonstop.

We were working for an alcoholic that would take rides to get drunk. One day the superintendent shows up and tells me and my buddy that the foreman said we were not working and running behind. This pisses me and my buddy off, so my buddy told him in no way were we behind and they have not had to wait on us for one minute and he could take this job and shove it up his arse. He looked at me and asked if I was coming with him, I looked at the superintendent and said, that's my ride and walked off the job.

We had a better job lined up making $1 more an hour before we got home. When we rode by the work site the foreman was having to finish the concrete. We honked the horn and waved as we passed.

I have another one but it's too long of a story to type, it ended with the superintendent getting his arse reamed by the division manager because he was screwing me around on a promotion. I called his bluff and quit. They tried to offer me the promotion to stay but the job I took was 30k more a year.

I worked at a small local fast food fish place in high school. We ended up getting a new incompetent manager. Her and I were scheduled to work Good Friday and I never showed up and left her alone to work that shift with no notice. FTB!

I accidentally misspelled a lady's name on my resignation letter. Her name was Susan Pron. I of course spelled her last name Porn.

First job out of college I got stuck in a dead end position. I knew it wasn't what I wanted to be doing but when I interviewed they told me after 2 years I could rotate out, which was what I was wanting to do, get some experience in all aspects of the operation, and I would rather get the worst part behind me. That didn't happen and they refused to let me rotate out.

It was a 3 shift operation with maintenance on the weekends, and salaried supervisors had to do the maintenance to keep down OT. Our 3rd supervisor was let go to save money. Me and the other guy were working 70-80 hours per week alternating days and nights and working every holiday. I left at 4:00 one morning after putting in 12 hours and they had a breakdown at 5:00. I was asleep and they tried to call me. I missed the call, and when I went in that afternoon the mgr. cussed me out because they called him and he had to come in an hour early. I stood up, closed his door and locked it, then told him he had 30 minutes to go to the main office and come back with my last paycheck, and if every dime of vacation I had accrued wasn't paid, it was coming out of his a$$.

The other supervisor quit the next week, and the mgr. Got canned a couple of months later for flunking a drug test.

After the Navy (2000), I went to work as a NOC tech for a startup telecom firm that provided voice/data to commercial customers. About 9 months on the job, the company filed for liquidation and immediately ceased to exist. The warning signs were there and I was able to secure a new job prior to the company closing. Many were not able to find employment as quickly bc they wanted to stay in Wash DC. I left for Cary, NC

The liquidation comes about 4 days before I leave for the new job.

When the liquidation hit, every employee received an email at 7pm from the CEO stating, "as of right now we are all out of jobs"

The guys working the evening shift in the NOC were ordered to shut every customer/switch down prior to leaving.

After completing the task, the techs forwarded all of our customer support 800 #'s to the CEO's home phone and cell phone. They then shut the lights off and walked out.

CEO called our director (who was an idiot) begging to switch the forwarding away from his phones. It took 3 days.

There is a international database for routing 800 #'s that is independent of our network. you simply tell the database that if a call comes into a particular 800#, it should be routed to a certain regular #. Shutting our network down did not interfere with rerouting the 800's

After retiring, my dad got a part time job just to avoid boredom. On certain days they'd ask him to drive to other locations to pick things up for the business, etc. Eventually they had him driving every day, and he was the only employee that was doing any driving. He asked if he could cut back on the driving and go back to the original schedule where it rotates daily. They told him no so he said "ok, I quit." The boss told him he had to officially write a resignation letter and give them 2 weeks notice. He grabbed a piece of printer paper, wrote the words "I quit" and signed his name, then told them to shove their 2 weeks notice.
