Rustic Inn in Jackson is awesome. If you do, get a cabin room along the river. Also, we've stayed a couple of times at the Three Bears Lodge in West Yellowstone. It's about 5-10 minutes to the entrance to the park. Better check to see when each entrance closes in the fall. In late fall, the north entrance is the only way to get into the park unless you are on snowmobile or snow coach.

Are you rv’ing, looking for a lodge, tent camping?

Very light on info to get a meaningful answer.

Stay in the Park! If you don’t you are going to have to drive a lot. I’d stay at the Canyon Lodge. It’s centrally located and relatively new. No cable or internet though.

I’d say Gardiner or West Yellowstone. When I went in 2019 we lodged at 3 different hotels (Jackson, West Yellowstone, & Gardiner) that week so we wouldn’t be backtracking everyday.

A suggestion when it comes to seeing Old Faithful: it can get seriously crowded, perhaps not so much in the Fall, but there is a hiking trail, a good walk up hill but worth it, leading to a great vantage point looking down on Old Faithful. The park employees know of it & use it to avoid the crowds. Find one of the young workers & ask if it's still viable & get directions. And in general, ask them where they go to avoid the crowds in each area of the park.

Jackson Lake Lodge.

Jackson Hole is the answer here. Grand Tetons > Yellowstone IMO.

We stayed in West Yellowstone last October. Caught the first big snow of the year and most of the entrances were closed except that one. Next time I will go earlier and stay around Red Lodge and come in through the NE entrance on Beartooth Pass. Make sure you have a few days to take it all in.

The Cook City area on the Montana side is truly the best.

Lake Yellowstone hotel and the canyon lodge are good. But what time in the fall are you going? Anything past the second week of October you run the risk of not getting into most the park. As soon as they get snow they shut down most the roads until late spring.

Last few times I’ve gone I’ve stayed in Jackson Hole. It’s a 2 hr drive but you drive through Teton National park and it’s beautiful and you’re able to experience both those parks.

A lot of the facilities inside the park close September-November so you might want to consider booking something outside the park. We stayed at the Kelly Inn (west entrance). Fairly nice with an indoor pool and hot tubs. They have an Imax within walking distance also.

You can stay at hotels as nice as you want in Jackson Hole (there is a Four Seasons there), it is very short drive. Can also stay at the Jackson Lake Lodge overlooking the Grand Tetons (great place for a drink-you can get a cabin), shorter drive. The hotel accommodations at Yellowstone National Park are not 5star or even 4star, but the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone is a must see and very cool lobby. Did not see any of the rooms. Note-most of these places DO NOT have A.C.

Jackson WY. If going in fall you will have to see when the park services closes.

Yeah, it's super cool. First thing my wife and one of my son's said when we walked in was, "I'm going up there!"

Thankfully it's been closed off at the third floor for a while due to some structural issue form an earthquake or something.
