I have a Weber spirit, Weber performer, and blackstone. Have also had a pellet grill and electric smoker but got rid of those. Electric components outside in south Louisiana are no bueno.

That’s a tough to vote on.
But probably right.
Kids seem to like smoked too.

I bought a Louisiana Grills kamado smoker about 5 years ago from Costco for around $400. I don’t really feel the need for a different grill anytime soon, still.

Things that have really changed it for me since I bought it:
1) kick ash basket and can (holds fuel different and changes/optimizes convection and makes it far easier to clean (if you don’t clean it regularly, it cooks way different)
2) woo ring

Even if buying a much ‘nicer’ kamado than mine, these upgrades really should be the standard equipment.

Recently got a fan-style temp controller. Only used once so far but plan on breaking it back out this weekend for a much longer/slower/lower cook. Not sure I like how ‘automated’ it is, because it already takes such little time/effort moving the vents.

I’ve got good friends and family with Masterbuilt Gravity, offset charcoal, pellet, propane vertical smoker, BGE…turns out they all can make good food. Don’t stress.

I bought a Pit Boss from Wally World at the start of Covid. I wasn’t a great griller. The temperature setting made learning to grill easy.

It’s starting to fall apart now, but it was only a $400 grill and I was lazy about covering it. I will probably buy another pit boss, but a better model in a year or 2.

Whatever you chose, take care of it and keep it out of the weather.

If you can afford it, get a Weber Summit Kamado. If you want something cheaper, get a Weber Performer.

Owned a XL BGE for 13 years and it's still like new. The lower fire bowl insert cracked about 5yrs ago and no questions asked was replaced under warranty. Added extender grate to give more cooking surface area. This is my only complaint about ceramic kamado style cookers with lack of surface area when cooking lots of meat at one time for big get togethers. Other than that, it is super versatile and excels at anything you want to cook.

The best all-around and bang for your buck is the Weber Kettle. You can cook anything on it. Only downside is potentially surface area.

I have the Weber Performer and it's a beast. It's also nice that you can buy so many accessories or replacement parts, if needed.

even though money wasn't the issue, this is why i went pit boss when everybody around me was touting traeger.

the ability to sear and get flame is a big difference.

I highly recommend this. Buy a $20 hibachi and put the 1500 in an account and save it until you can do an outdoor kitchen area with a built in grill, sink...

I'm a PK guy also, but not a fan of the newer models from the last 3-4 years. See if you can find a used PK with the "slide" vents, rather than the "radial" vents. The original models are what you want. Those were made in America.

Quick easy stuff, pellet grill hands down. Use it like an oven. We cook homemade macncheese, meatloafs, frozen pizzas and premade items like stuffed loins or chicken breast. Great for weekday meals with some flavor and you don't heat up the house in the summer.

ETA: I have a Traeger at the camp and a Pitboss at home. Prefer the pitboss's ability to sear steaks.

I have a weber genesis - 3 burner

Has a removable griddle insert so it's a grill or griddle top -
It's my 3rd weber
# 1 lasted 11 years
# 2- 2 years (April tornado took it out - and part of my garage)

I'm too lazy for a charcoal - I'm a last minute griller....

IMO you can't beat a Big Green Egg or kamodo style. I have had my XL for about 15 years and we do everything but fry. Does everything very well - smoke, grill , bake, or low & slow
