If you want a dog that always wants to cuddle with you and make you laugh.....get a pug.

We have two Boston Terriers now. They don't shed, rarely bark, don't take up a lot of room and are the funniest creatures on earth.

If you are in New Orleans, check out Zeus Rescues, on Freret St. They are on Facebook too and their page features pets they have for adoption. They do a great job rescuing pets from the pound. My Doxie mix is from them. Zeus has some really cute dogs for adoption now, but i have three already. Check them out, please.

I've had Coonhounds my entire life. Mostly Redbones and a Bluetick Coonhound.

A lot depends on what "size range" of dog you want, as well as how much time you will be able to spend per day with the dog and how much exercise it will get.

I second all the folks that say get one from the pound/rescue.

I got an English Bulldog (from a rescue) 2 years ago, and he's been the best dog that I've had. (I had collies then labs/goldens growing up). But they are all different.

My bulldog is happy with a 15-30 min walk per day, and to then just doze on the couch. For other breeds 15-30 mins is just getting started.

Without reading any responses first, I've got to say my shih tzu has been the best family dog we've had and we've had two cocker spaniels, a miniature schnauzer, a shepherd/lab mix and the shih tzu over the years. He's had the most calm personality and been the least "needy" dog of the bunch. Doesn't shed(big plus), doesn't chew everything in sight, doesn't eat much and easy to travel with if need be. We've got 3 dogs currently and if we ever get another one, it'll be a shih tzu.

beagle...very loving dogs, their bark is loud and has fooled a few neighbors that I have a big dog. I also have a beagle/Boston terrier mix. She has been maybe the sweetest dog ever. She is bigger than the beagle, many think she has put in her. Great around kids. Good the mix, great looking dog.

That Presa is awesome. Would kill to have one. Too pricey for now though.

If you want a smart dog get a border collie or German Shephard.

If you want a dumb funny energetic dog that is great around kids, get a boxer

If you want a small dog get a dachshund

it all depends on what you like to do. Do you have a family, big back yard or very active with walking your dog then a boxer would be a great dog. However, they are a terrible dog for someone who is not active and lives in an area without a backyard.

I got my Staffie from the Jefferson Parish shelter. She's the sweetest, most affectionate dog I've ever had.

But it really depends on what kind of dog personality you want. But, you can never really go wrong with a mutt.
