Just a heads up: Best Buy executives are expecting soft sales in 2024 and are warning that layoffs and other cost saving measures may be announced by the company. The number of job cuts are currently unclear, but CEO Corie Barry says the savings would be reinvested into the business or would offset inflationary pressures.

So a questionable business model with crappy service is going this way? they could soon be the next Circuit City.

Around the holidays i went in there and they had a million people walking around and one chick checking people out at customer service.

Can i help you? yeah go walk over to that register and start checking people out, stop handing me trash on my way in.

I believe so.

Their stores now look terrible on the inside. Unkept, empty.

Every sign of closing down appears to be knocking. Amazon, Walmart, BABA, JD, PDD, Coupang.

Theres just so much competition that literally delivers.

Impossible. I was told that this economy was strong. And to trust our federal level estimates on job growth even though it conflicts with state level numbers.

Retail is notorious for cutting jobs and closing stores in February/March.

Except that none of the others I can or want to go into.

I don't know the answer, but I appreciate having a best buy and the generally price match. Its one more local location I can actually go into and compare the quality. Its nice to be able to do that.

Walmart has very few items that you can actually try and touch. I may sounds like a boomer, but that's nice to do on occasion.

Honestly, Best Buy's survival up to this point has been impressive.

I bought my last TV there because I wanted to look at all of them side by side.

I go into the store on black friday and buy a tv.
In stock should be able to walk out with tv right? Wrong.
"Wont be ready for an hour."
No big deal probably could use a bigger vehicle than the elantra i was in anyway.
Go switch cars, eat lunch, and come back.
Still not ready.
Ask someone in customer service and "they have no record of sell." get told to wait another hour and come back.
Didnt feel like going back home so I just hang out in the store.
3 hours later still no tv.
I go back home.
2 hours later I get a text its read
Get to store.
They still have no record in store of the sell (keep in mind I bought the damn thing in the store)
Decided I wasnt leaving without tv and annoy them into submission.
At that moment I decided I was done making bigger purchases there.

Theyve done this to themselves as far as im concerned.

Best Buy's demise began with last week's OT rant against them.

I could buy a large TV and then have to get it home or I can have it delivered to my front door the next day.

The only upside to Best Buy is seeing products in person. Even if they'll price match, I'll still end up going with Amazon 99% of the time. Their employees are dumb as shite and dgaf, they just walk around the store not doing anything while they have one employee working checkout at customer service.

Their "Total Tech" package got done away with, it had its uses like having a TV & sound system mounted. Now they offer an $180 membership that basically only covers Geek Squad/Tech stuff. Think they've gotten rid of the discounts on protection plans.

I occasionally go to one that's in a very nice shopping center and it's still exactly as described above. Best Buy's days are numbered. I'm honestly surprised they've survived this long.

That primarily what.i do. Go look at the product and then buy from Amazon. Shitty but I think they did it ti themselves. If they had some knowledgeable sales people maybe a different story. But its usually an employee that doesn't't know the basics,

Gone are the days where you can go, simply buy something, and take it with you. I couldn't get a damn PS5 controller the other day. I'm walking around with one of those stupid cards with the picture on it an no one stopped. When I grabbed someone, I get "its that guy over there" who had like 8 other people waiting. A damn PS5 controller. I went to Gamestop where they tried to sell me a protection plan....on a $60 controller? WFT.
