Are these centers going to employ many people? Seems a huge amount of resources are going to be consumed by them and I have heard varied reports on the actual jobs involved. Have heard reports of very few jobs to tons of jobs.

Wild concept there

Sounds more like we're letting a foreign country set up a data center on US soil and use our water.

They don’t employ many people. The revenue play for the governments is these things cost billions to build and operate and have billions in equipment that needs to be maintained, repaired, and replaced

Public employees should never be allowed NDA's. They are stewards. This isn't their money.

I don't think they create near the jobs they claim. Even during the construction phase that is debatable, as they often bring in out-of-state firms to do the work.

So even though they have NDAs, why can't people FOIA around those?

Generally not many on an ongoing basis. The infrastructure involved with these projects is enormous, so there are often a lot of jobs involved in bringing fiber, power, and water to the site. But once it's operational it generally doesn't require a huge crew.

This is insane.

We're really on a crash course to some seriously bad shite in the future. The environmentalists are going to throw a hissy fit. The civil rights characters are going to (rightfully) point out how this data center is planted right in the middle of a poor, black community. The suburbs are going to grow weary of sending more tax dollars to take care of people disenfranchised by these "public" officials' actions.

And a few uber rich assholes will walk off with fancy cigars.

As someone already said, this is for cat videos. It's also for stupid people to use AI, the storage of virtual files, and the collection of people's personal data.

What a world.

They're probably trying. Honestly, the secrecy around this may be the most concerning aspect. Supposedly, this Logistics Land Investment is going to outlay billions of dollars with no end user agreement? Yeah, they just don't want to acknowledge the end user.

Those are still jobs.

The local unions and contractors almost certainly don't have enough people to work a job that size on top of their normal workload, so they bring in tramps.

Will the electric usage cause home electric bills to soar. How many electric sucking businesses pay less per kwh than individuals in the same area?

Because it's probably a foreign country.

Not going to happen. That's like saying we should just stick to horses because cars use petroleum.

Was the move to Automobiles highly subsidized by local and state govts? I don’t know the answer but am curious.

Public officials signing NDAs is something I've never heard of and it sure as hell shouldn't be allowed. WTF

Yeah, IDK why they can't recycle it in a closed loop. Cool the water with a geothermal system and recycle it back. They are probably looking for the cheapest route.

It has been in operation long enough now that they should have a baseline.
