My wife and I have until tonight to decide if we will carry on with our Jamaica trip to Montego Bay this weekend. The airport is open and we called the resort and they said the building next door lost a few shingles but there's no major damage, they never lost power and everything is fully functional like normal. I figured that's what they would say though but is that the truth.

Glad to know Jamaica’s power provider is not Entergy.

If it was, they would be out for a week or 2.

The variation in Coriolis with latitude - called the Beta effect - actually will move a hurricane to the NW in the northern hemisphere even if there is no large scale wind pushing the storm along !

Beryl looks to be strengthening some on satellite imagery. Convection firing and wrapping back around the SW eyewall

The poster that put this plot on here and represented it as verification of the accuracy of some very early NHC storm track predictions is wrong.....that is not what this plot shows.

You sure did type a lot of completely wrong shite. Jamaica has been in the cone for every NHC outlook. You can look at the archive of Beryl’s forecasts here:

NHC Beryl Archive

Try not to be an utter dumbass next time.

That's what they told me after Hurricane Wilma hit Mexico before my Honeymoon.

I called multiple times and asked the same question. The first said everything was fine. Then they closed the Cancun airport. Then I called back a few more and they told me the place was a disaster area. Down to all the sand they pump on to the resort beach was blown off the property.

I'd give em another couple tries for different people.

Beryl is certainly looking better than expected and is in even better shape than the hurricane models showed.

It is tracking on the northern side of the 06z ensemble spread, and this is probably due to the fact that Beryl is vertically deeper than the models expected. A vertically healthier system will feel more of the mid level vs. low level steering flow. Also, persistent convection on the northern side of the system can pull the vortex northward.

He’s certainly blowing up convection in the middle. What an a-hole.

I even went to the Jamaica national electricity website and there weren't too many outages and none where we're going.

I screenshotted one the other day for this very reason. Let me investigate.

After further review the cone is still authentic.
