Levi just put out a new video. Saying if Beryl is weaker when it comes off the Yucatan the low to it's west will hamper it and it will continue west into Mexico. If Beryl is stronger and can fight that off can move more northward. Also gonna be 2 throughs coming down and exactly Beryl location and strength will determine how far north it can get.

France 24 has some video of Jamaica's storm preparations
The picture of small boats tied up to a metal fence in Kingston Harbor, maybe three feet about the water line tells me that there is no "storm surge" in their language

Its not a prediction, its fact
Stronger storm turns north more
Weaker storm stays more west

Sure looks like friction with land caused it to be pulled north
It looks like it got close enough for the circulation to interact with the mountains. It's not uncommon to see systems dance around the islands like this. Also, convection has kicked back up during this process, and the eye is warming and clearing some.

It sure did, and when it did you could easily see the strength of the rotation. Wrapped it around quick.

Yeah, nothing has really changed since this weekend:
quote:
The major players will be in place in a few days.
Watch the ridge (high pressure) over the SE US and the short wave trough (low pressure) moving across the Northern Plains. If the ridge trends weaker or slides off to the east faster, and the trough is faster or stronger, then Beryl will be able to turn NW faster, esp. if it's a strong hurricane in the WCAB. If the opposite happens, then Beryl will take more of western track into the BOC

How many days away are we until this thing hits Texas? It feels like we’ve been talking about it for a week already? Is it moving extra slow or something?

Is there a working camera in Jamaica right now?

It's just had the potential for development for a long time, since it came off of Africa. It's been a pretty quick moving system, it's just had a really long way to go.

Nah, it's trucking, all things considered
It just formed way out in the Atlantic, way earlier than usual for that area, rapidly intensified into a major hurricane, has been slow to shed that strength, and still has quite a way to go before it's eventual dissipation. Hopefully by the weekend - Monday we'll finally be done with her.
