Berkeley bans natural gas and gender language (doubles down on stupid)
I seriously don’t know that there’s a bigger hotbed for plain human stupidity than Berkeley California. What could possibly make anyone want to live in such an area unless of course they identified with such lunacy? It’s certainly no place I’d want to actually live my life. It just barely resembles America, and I mean just barely, or in name only perhaps.

More bans are being implemented in Berkeley, California.
The Bay Area city has become the first in the nation to ban natural gas Opens a New Window. lines from being installed in new low-rise residential buildings. The City Council voted in favor of the measure that will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2020, the San Francisco Chronicle Opens a New Window. reported.
The new homes will instead be required to have electric infrastructure. Berkeley councilwoman Kate Harrison, who spearheaded the ordinance, said natural gas is an “enormous issue” when it comes to climate change.
“We need to really tackle this. When we think about pollution and climate-change issues, we tend to think about factories and cars, but all buildings are producing greenhouse gas,” Harrison told the newspaper on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the City Council also passed an ordinance that barred gendered language in the city’s municipal code, the Chronicle Opens a New Window. reported. The words, such as manhole and manpower, will be replaced with neutral terms such as “maintenance hole” and “human effort” or “workforce.” Updating city forms will cost Berkeley an estimated $600. The pronouns “she,” “he,” “her” and “him,” will be replaced with “they” and “them.” “Men and women” will be replaced with “people,” or “a single gender” when referring to a male or female.

California is a lost cause, and I have no problem with them going as far off the deep end as they wish.
When they start spreading that stupidity like a virus, then I have an issue.

I love how the basis is around preferring electric stoves. I don't know of a state that's had bigger power grid issues than California over the past decade (other than NY this year).

Power plants are going to be putting out ridiculously carbon to power the grid now

And then they buy electricity made by gas turbines....
You rock California!
You rock California!

I’m curious how all the electric power they are so in love with is generated?
I’m assuming all solar and wind?

I actually have no problem with this- at least not to get worked up over it. Many companies, including mine, already practice this directive. Still, there is no reason for an ordinance.

This is just stupid.

Same electricity that will replace NG is predominately produced by same NG or Coal.
much more efficient to use NG to for central heat, cooking, dryers, or in water heaters.
and you have efficiency losses in electric distribution......

california is slowly going to frick the grid stability in that area with instituting all of the renewable energy sources and removing fossil generation

Is natural gas racist now or something? I always thought it was one of the cleanest forms of energy available.

it's like they are constantly trying to out-weird themselves.

I guess they can burn their copies of the communist manifesto to stay warm

Natural gas is still the single largest source of electrical power generation in California. Not sure about the bay area specifically.
I think this is maybe well-intended but insanely short sighted. On its face at least, and just reading the quotes in the OP.

The most efficient natural gas plants are about 60% efficient. So Berkeley is requiring that new residents have to waste at least 40% of nat. gas energy used for cooking and heating.

Yeah, all of life’s problems solved. Everyone is happy now.

I propose henceforth that all vaginas be known as "maintenance holes."
