Specifically, they identified that the mountain behind the glacier was crumbling
Seems like more of a “sitting on a fault line” issue than anything really to do with the glacier, unless the weight of the glacier was the issue.

Glaciers by definition are flowing ice and they flow under their own weight due to gravity,. The day before the glacier moved 1.5 meters (~5 feet). That pretty drastic.
I believe if anyone would have been monitoring the situation intimately, like these local geologists they would have come to the common sense conclusion they needed to evacuated the village below.

It looks like the glacier collapsed but also a big chunk of the side of the mountain that wasn't a glacier? Like a giant mudslide also. This feels like they added in "glacier" for the political talking points.

Excellent point.

People keep saying glacier collapse and using fancy words.
It was a mud slide, an avalanche.
But saying that doesn't get you enraged at oil companies.

Anxiously awaiting conspiracy theorists to claim this was triggered by a man made explosion of sorts to reduce the earth's population and or let the government seize all private property

Blatten's emergency director wasn't a fat dyke DEI hire, apparently.

That’s like a modern time Pompeii. Just gone and buried

Lake Oeschinensee is probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen. It was easily my favorite stop we made while in country.
I've been there. It is incredible.
The closest thing I've seen to this is Colchuck Lake near Leavenworth, WA. You definitely feel like you are back in Europe.

Switzerland is a place you have to see to believe it. It doesn’t even look real while you are there.
Switzerland is on my bucket list .

I had a several day layover in Switzerland on a group tour back in the 80s. I'm convinced that Switzerland euthanizes all ugly girls in the crib. The ratio of hot women to the general population was unreal. Even the women in their 60s all looked like retired movie stars.

I was in Switzerland 7 years ago. Could have been me.

The early warning and evacuation likely prevented a greater tragedy, although one person, a 64-year-old man, was reported missing after the collapse.
Reminds me of Mr. Harry R. Truman.
quote:
Harry R. Truman (October 1896 – May 18, 1980) was an American businessman, bootlegger, and prospector. He lived near Mount St. Helens, an active volcano in the state of Washington, and was the owner and caretaker of Mount St. Helens Lodge at Spirit Lake near the base of the mountain. Truman came to fame as a folk hero in the weeks leading up to the volcano's 1980 eruption after refusing to leave his home despite repeated orders to evacuate. On May 18, 1980, Truman was killed in the cataclysmic eruption of Mount St. Helens by a pyroclastic flow that overtook his lodge and buried the site under 150 ft (46 m) of volcanic debris.

And some of yall still don’t believe in climate change
Glaciers move. It's what they do.
Climates change. It's what they do.
It's been that way since the beginning of time.
The problem I have is them blaming natural occurrences on cow farts and V8 engines, despite any evidence, all while deciding to take my money from me to fix the problem. In the 1900s - 1970s smog covered every major city on the planet. That's all gone now for the most part (I'm glad). But still, despite all of these measures to fight climate change, the climate is still changing.
1. If the steps taken aren't working then maybe the problem is just natural in nature and not man made.
2. Why should I continue to pay for steps that aren't working?

there is nothing that the natural world does better than fill a hole, regardless of cause. That’s what gravity does
