We're in west Texas. 22 was a killer and 23 and 24 were below average and not enough to really get the tanks back full. It's tough cattle land on a good year. It's really better for sheep but the coyotes and pigs make that impossible.
Same up here in Nebraska. The Dakotas got slammed too. All of this is prime cattle country and was in awful drought starting in 2021. This was the first year we got relief.

yeah this year has been better. Maybe it'll stabilize for a couple years and we can build it back.

I’ve cut way back on red meat. Love it, but if I’m paying over $20-30/lb for it, I would rather get high quality seafood. I’d rather eat Halibut than Filet 4 of 5 times anyway.

Climate nuts, aka liberals, want to lower our beef consumption.
The usual rogue's gallery of misfit lunatics can be blamed for a lot but this demolition of the food supply has been part of the global tControllersThatBe Agenda21 (now 30) since 1992.
It's about to go into full throttle mode.

Well, need to head out from Lonesome Dove and up towards Montana with those cattle. It will be a tough trip, and most of you will die, but you just need to see that land.

With all the talk about soybeans not being shipped to China will the excess soybeans lower feed costs?
How much of the rise in beef is a result of ranchers culling their herds during Covid? Or is that too far in the past?

Droughts have had a bigger impact. We also didn't make any changes because of Covid. Just crappy timing with the climate issues.

Drought has had a major impact but these high prices has limited the number of heifers being kept back drastically as well. Starting last year was the first time in a long time the cow/calf guys have really made some decent money. It has also spurred a lot of the older guys to sell out while the getting is good.
I think starting next year you will see guys holding back more heifers and the herd size increasing.

I had to pay $5.99/lb for a prime brisket at Costco last week. Ridiculous. It used to be $4.49/lb.

Over the decades we have continually shifted from a more regional food supply to a national, and now more international one. We, as humans, are farther removed from our food sources than ever before in history. At the same time, we have been consolidating our food supply into the hands of a smaller and smaller group of corporations.
Along with that, we have the steady rise in land value that has contributed to the end of many multi-generational farming operations in favor of selling the land for development. Smaller, family owned and community-oriented farms are dying at a rapid pace. In its place we get a much more disconnected and disjointed food supply controlled by fewer and fewer people that operate with minimal input from local populations.
That is a precarious spot to be in for a society. Revolt rides on the stomach, and downfall of nations can follow.

Well thank god gas is under $2 per gallon and prescription medicine dropped 1,500%. That $20 the pharmacy gives me when I pick up hormone pills allows me to afford a burger afterwards.

At least we got tariffs on movies, though. That's what really matters.

Yep. This is our story. Dad is 78, been ranching his whole life, grandad also a big cattle rancher. We finally sold everything last month. First time in almost 100 years we haven’t had any cattle at the place. Dads just too old and the prices have never been higher

I've basically stopped buying beef, and ironically the price of meat drove me to finally get a hunting license and attend some classes/find people to hunt with.

As long as they don't screw with Chicken or Turkey I'll be alright.
Only time I ever eat red meat is maybe once a month when I get a burger.
Too much fat for me to consume regularly and the cuts that are lean taste like shite

Eggs, beef, pork and chicken, the keto diet demand is doing work. Oh well, at least they can’t raise the prices on fasting.

I’ve accepted the cajun way of cooking beef: buy cheap cuts from a local farmer and cook them in a gravy until they’re tender. I get my fix and save some money that way.
When I want a good ribeye I suppose I had better be ok paying $36 for a “family” pack of 2 steaks.
