I don't think one fifth grader's protest constitutes "spreading like wildfire."

It does illustrate how bad the media has become - why would a Fifth Grader's protest be newsworthy?

Need to take a note from South Park and make it completely irrelevant.

Skyla Madria, a fifth grader at Alexander Middle School, explained “The Star-Spangled Banner” was written by Francis Scott Key, a slave owner. One of the verses, which most people don’t sing, specifically refers to slavery, she said.

The third verse.
quote:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Give me a break

Waiting to see how long it takes for an OT sleuth to post the cell phone # of the coach.

The solution at this point is for everyone to kneel. Make kneeing the new standing. Then their gesture is meaningless.

Or just fricking ignore them. Without the attention, their "statement" loses any meaning.

Exactly. That was the main point in my post. Not the actual bullshite kneeling but rather the coaches using young kids for attention whoring. Disgraceful.

10yo protest Pledge of Allegiance
Part of the problem is constantly giving attention to these people. Why the frick is there a news release about a 10 year old refusing to do something? It's sad to see how far modern day journalism has fallen.

PA announcer: "Ladies and gentlemen, you may see some players kneeling in a form of silent protest. Please don't let it upset you. It's no more disrespectful than the bitch in 12G who is talking on her phone, or that a-hole in Row 14 who just headed to the concession stand for another beer---with his damned cap on--- in the middle of the anthem. Thank you."

Why are they playing the national anthem at a pee wee football game?

I understand people getting upset, but I don't understand this line of thinking. Their exercising a right that very few countries in the world would ever give them. Every time one of these idiots kneels or does some other stupid gesture, I'm just reminded that we live in the greatest country in the world, a place that allows you to be a fool if you so choose.

Slackster - I can agree with your perspective as well. It seems we are in agreement on the big issue but just approaching it from different sides.
My beef with the OP's original story is a pee wee football team doing it. I just beleive that adults put them up to it and they saw it being done on TV and went along.
