Beating Dead Horse: Experiences I've had in last 7 days with Covid

Like most, I was very skeptical. Things started to hit home and I've fully bought in, but at this point getting over it.
As of this morning I know 8 people laid off...all of them "college educated professionals." 3/8 are oil and gas related. Got a text from a buddy and called him back. Just have a pit in my stomach.
I've had 2 friends now with terminally ill grandparents who passed away in last 2 months or so. Both same story of being tested negative for COVID but cert came back as COVID. WTF?
Last week, in my sleepy suburb neighborhood had a 24 hour police standoff with some dude who threatened to kill wife, wife eventually got out. Door frame eventually blown up, flash grenades, drones, copters, swat teams, gun shots heard from 9pm-2am. I guess they took him out alive. 10-15 houses evacuated (where did they go?). House shaking all night from the vibrations. Sounded like he was "troubled" anyway, but will this type of thing continue?
I know one person (that I know of) with COVID, a doctor in NYC who has now recovered.
While the police standoff incident not necessarily related, I think I'm over this shite. Not saying this is a massive conspiracy or that COVID is not real or not dangerous, but enough is enough.
Are others pretty much done with this or am I perhaps being too emotional based on anecdotes?

Rational people can see we should open up with continued social distancing and no large crowds

Exactly. Enough is enough.
The fear mongering from the media needs to stop as well. My wife sees our neighbors as threats. She handwashes all groceries including the bags before they come inside. My kids are being told that they can’t hug their grandparents for potentially a year.
This is insane considering healthy people and young people ARE NOT AT RISK.

No, it's insane. The numbers at the hospitals I'm on staff at have dropped by probably 80% from their peak in early April.
As more and more data comes out it further reinforces that the risks for healthy individuals is almost zero.
Older, sicker folks should do what they need to do distance/shelter.
Everyone else should be allowed to do whatever the frick they want.
This will go down as one of the biggest blunders of all time.

Nuff said.... I have a buddy who is a doctor in a hospital who took a 25% pay cut cause there is no work..another one who is an engineer who don't know if he has work past the current project he's on.
Above all, these measures aren't doing shite! Went to home depot this weekend and they only let a certain number of people in at a time...so we were all in a line maybe a foot apart waiting to get in instead of being let into a massive warehouse...that makes sense
At this point were not longer doing this for a reason or to flatten the curve..that's been accomplished. We're just doing things to do things and it has to stop

Yeah, buddy who got laid off today was a petroleum engineer at a very large service company. Project ended, he's out. Worked there since 2005 when he was a college intern.

Exactly. I mean, I'll admit I'm more swayed by what I've seen first-hand, and the only "deaths" I've seen first hand were outright lies related to people in their 90s, but you can't say with a straight face this is not happening all over the place. How much double counting and BS number manipulation is taking place?
I've not studied this enough to give a thoughtful comment, but we've heard of the sudden drop in heart attack and stroke deaths. Just doesn't add up.

We are living the exact same life. This is crazy. I need my bubble to expand just a bit to include our parents so we can have child care back in our life. Not for convenience, but I’m going back to work Friday in the field and the wife has conference calls all day.

People have forgotten what shelter in place was supposed to accomplish. It was supposed to save hospitals from being overwhelmed. They have largely not been overwhelmed. It was never supposed to prevent people from getting sick.
So, instead of harassing those who don't wear masks and don't social distance appropriately, thank them for being volunteers on the path to herd immunity.
That doesn't make the disease a hoax, but broad shelter in place recommendations no longer look to be the best strategy medically or economically.
Relax restrictions. Encourage precautions. Adjust as necessary.

sorry to hear that man...my guy has a project that runs till June and he's praying shite improves before then. His wife is medical and they are laying off people like crazy...on top of this they just had their first child who is less than 1. I don't know how the "sTaY ThE frick At HoMe" people can look around at stuff like that and still believe this is the right thing to do

What I don't get is the big box stores adding new restrictions.
We have two months of data here. If people swarming the big box store was a real transmitter of this thing, we would know by now. It hasn't been.
So why in the world are they adding new restrictions?
