How do fellow Mandevillians feel about the beach being built on the lakefront?

WGNO video

First time hearing about it in the news today and it's supposed to open to the public within a month. I'm pretty excited about it, it's only a couple blocks from my house I just bought last month. Something new to do on the lakefront.

Take a ride out to the Fontainebleau "beach" and that will give you an idea.

It's the only place in LA you could build a beach and not have to worry about stepping on dirty needles.

Seriously though, it's perfect for that spot.

Truck loads of sand - about 13,500 cubic yards - are being hauled in, and Mandeville Mayor Donald Villere said he hopes to have a grand opening for the beach in about a week.

Most of the homes along the lakefront have more space than that.

Still pretty cool though.

They definitely needed to do something with that space. It was a waste the way it was. Also need bathrooms out there.

I took my son to the park right there Saturday and didn't know anything about it. They had a lot of it done already, looks good. Typically that spot has a lot of shite in the water, so hopefully the sand helps with that.

Just hope it doesn't attract the wrong crowd.

I've been there on a weekday evening when the sun was going down and it was pretty peaceful and nice.

People that live on the Lakefront lobbied hard against it. They literally said "get off my lawn." Those folks somehow believe the area across the street from their houses belongs to them.

The lakefront residents will act like they own it and bitch about everything.

The low class trashy people will pollute it with loud bass music and trashy behavior.

The normal people will probably avoid because of the above.

I used to swim in it when I was little. I'd go swim at the yacht club, run to the lake and jump in, and run back to the yacht club every time I went

This is pretty much how Louisiana fisherman see the GoM and the snapper that lies within.
