OP isnt going to live in the woodlands and have his wife work in sugarland. dunno why people keep bringing that up. they are on opposite sides of the city.
That would be a nightmare commute unless OP is baller and has a helicopter

especially the woodlands, has much more to offer than the northshore.

Also, it’s my understanding that Lake Houston isn’t a Great Lake for water sports or fishing.
Yep, totally sucks.
Pretty nice write-up on all the H-town burbs but I think OP said wife's job would be in Sugarland so I am not sure a run-down on Cypress or Kingwood would do him any good unless his wife wants to make some obscene commutes.

Shopping, eating, drinking, better schools.
One of the reasons New Orleans is hopeless is because of the shitty state of its suburbs. Mandeville/Covington are probably the best and they’re across a lake and 40 + minutes away.

????
closer salt water fishing and boating activities, duck hunting just as close, better dove hunting not far, south texas deer hunting
better parks and outdoor marinas, better for biking, hiking etc
overall much more to offer. just as close to houston as the northshore is to nola and houston offers a hell of a lot more to do that nola, especially for a family guy.
he isnt a single guy looking to get fricked up and hit the strip joints on bourbon lol.

Just live near/in Sugarland. It’s not Houston but has the “best cost of living” in all of Texas.

I’ve always been surprised by the number of questions about Dallas and Houston on this board. You’d think with the way Austin and San Antonio have grown the last decade more people would ask about jobs and opportunities there, instead it’s dominated by Dallas and Houston. Weird.

This is what makes the Austin (hill country) area superior in my opinion. Way less rain than SE Texas and much prettier topography. I said it before, it’s odd how Dallas and Houston get more attention than central Texas/hill country.
Can we delete the above info.
I lived in Houston and Katy for 16 years.
I worked every in direction.
Will I go back? Nope.
I'll die living in the Hill Country.

There are two lakes within The Woodlands that are great for bass fishing from a kayak and Lake Conroe is about 15-20 minutes away if you wanted to use a bass boat.

Driving through my hood and seeing all the LSU flags, signs and street markings, everyone from South LA. Other than myself, North LA people haven't figured out how to leave LA.

i'd rather cut my dick off than go bass fishing on a public lake

People always say " more to do ". What do people and kids exactly do in houston , denver, raleigh Dallas or San Diego. Just watch TV, drink , eat there too.
What do y'all who live out of state do in free time

Be sure to check the HOA rules. Some have specifics about acceptable times for yard mowing.

As op has mentioned... be sure to factor in taxes here... they catch a lot of people by surprise ...also our energy can be pricey...
If in 3-400 k you win out because no state taxes and public schools...
But when in 700k range....taxes may cause you to rethink The house size/cost (not benefits of sugar land...there are many)
I know people that have come in and bought the 700k house and a year later sell it due to taxes and energy bills

Can’t blame you. Cousin lives on 100 acres 10 miles from from 290....His back porch is the best beer drinking view I’ve ever seen. 2 miles off a secluded HWY. Deer are stupid and everywhere.......
Damn I love the Hill Country
