I’m Woodlands so you don’t want my opinion.

Ok.....I’ll give it.

Woodlands and, to a lesser extent, Katy/Fulshear are tops for suburbia. Great education and no state income tax.

No kids, Heights.

Htown is so far ahead of LA it’s scary, but a bit unfair when you realize Htown is the 4th largest city in the country.

Woodlands > Katy due to the lack of trees in Katy.

I like to use Redfin for home searching since you can search based off of a particular school.

Dulles, Austin, and Clements are better than any non-specialty high school in Louisiana. Those are all Sugar Land aka Fort Bend ISD.

Since you have kids, the boredom of living in a suburb won’t be as bad as if you were 26 and single.

Be sure to check the flood zoning of your house.

Biggest drawback about Houston is the pre-Covid traffic. I have a great commute but plenty of people in my office drive an hour or more each way. They live in the Woodlands, Cinco Ranch, Kingwood, and Richmond. I’m sure they all have 3000 square foot homes, great zoned schools, and half have pools, but the commute time is terrible. Especially since the commute is in tightly packed traffic that requires much more attention than anything I’ve needed to do in LA.

Sugar Land is probably considered the third or fourth nicest suburb of Houston, following the Woodlands and Katy/Cinco Ranch. Memorial too, if that is considered a suburb. Overall not a bad place to be at all, if you and your wife can keep your commute times manageable.

This is pretty accurate IMO. Definitely check your flood zone/history.

IMO, the most important factor is your day-in, day-out life style. Be mindful of your commute.

LA has a strong culture. You will miss it. But TX is a great state. And tons of LA expats.

Finally, if you're use to fishing Delacroix or Hopedale or the Rigolets, prepare to be disappointed. Amazing fishery in SE LA.

God bless in your decision.

Hated it. Hotter, more humid, and more bugs.

Big shooting range at bush park....
Between sugar land and katy..
Sugar land use to rank as one of the best places to work... yes has some areas That have Asian and Hispanic flair but all in all solid...cost of living waaaay better....public schools waaaaaaay better..and yeah some very very nice neighborhoods on some oxbow lakes... for raising family much better... go back to Nola once a year for a long weekend and enjoy the quarter and aquarium etc...

Moved here when oil left Nola downtown a long time ago...visit Nola now and then when in br using my tailgate condo next to campus...

We're in The Woodlands. When we were looking for homes, Katy was my least favorite Houston suburb.

Pretty much this.
I’ve spent a lot of time over there.
Got an older brother that’s been there for 30 years since college.
Been trying to get me to move there for 25 years.
As stated above, way more bang for the buck in the real estate market as well as economic opportunities.
The cultural and materialistic lifestyle atmosphere is just not appealing.

Cheap real estate, good schools, government infrastructure that works for the citizens, and plenty of jobs. Been here for 20 years and raised two children. Probably will never leave even though I go to Louisiana 10-12 times a year.
