Meanwhile, the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles is on the verge of disaster. I'm glad to see our priorities are intact.

$20 million is barely more than a drop in the bucket when it comes to what they need to do with I-10 in Baton Rouge and Lake Charles.

They’ll study it. An engineering company that gives loads of money to politicians will get the contract. They’ll get $20 million to produce $500,000 worth of work, then the project will not receive further funding.

Ten years later they’ll spend $40 million on another study.

About $20 million

This should cover the first round of meetings to determine the study parameters of the first of 300 studies

This will save the criminals in New Orleans from having to spend gas to come commit crimes in Baton Rouge

How progressive

No one is gonna use this.

Once it becomes obvious who is gonna ride it, no one responsible is going to want anything to do with this

Where is this stupid arse train going to go actually?

If it goes to MSY, and also all the way to downtown New Orleans where Union Station is right by the Dome, then i could definitely see using it when it comes to sporting events, assuming it's not full of a typical CATS bus. Being able to fly into New Orleans and get downtown via a train would be great, or taking a train to LSU/Downtown for a game. Hell if i wanted to go to a Pelicans game or Saints game and it took me close enough i'd rather that than drive and find parking, and then deal with the traffic. If it took me 2 hours to get to a Pels/Saints game from BR by train, and i had minimal walking to do in NO, i'd be all for that.

No one is commuting daily on this thing like they expect.

Dumbest waste of money in a long time. It’s fitting that it’s this generation that’s going to spearhead this nonsense.

I think 400 million was already secured for the Lake Charles bridge.

Getting from BR to NOLA is not hard. Straight shot on the interstate. Don’t see the need.

Oh boy, now the crime doesn't need wheels to go north. How will they get the ATVs on the train?

Will they provide weapons for defense during the commute?

The New Mexico Railrunner runs from Belen NM to Santa Fe NM via Albuquerque. From what I can derive from the website it cost $30 per ticket and takes about 2 hours to get from Belen to Santa Fe. They run 6 northbound and 6 southbound trains on their weekday schedule.
So for $60 for roundtrip.
This BR to NOLA train would be about the same in cost of a ticket.
Ouch.

I know the baws here hate the premise of this idea, but commuter rail has proven to work in almost every region it’s been established in, minus maybe Los Angeles.

Keeps the shitty drivers off the road, cuts down on DUI, and serves as a mini economic boom for businesses on the line. It can’t hurt.
