Just because you can post public info, doesn't mean you should.
Correct. But the person signing it knows (or should know) that when signing.

The petition is public record.

Correct. I was just pointing out that there wasn't any nefarious activity on the part of the Advocate.
I'm 100% in favor of allowing the people of the proposed St. George district to vote. They shouldn't be denied that opportunity or intimidated.

Addresses are public information. You can search the tax roll. Nobody ever seemed worried about the old phone books.
I agree. But here on the OT, we tend to self-govern and the Admins will often send you a message if you post information directly in a thread, even if it's public.
I've been reprimanded for posting a screen cap of a property record from the EBR Assessor site.
What I should have done is just posted the link to the site and told posters to go search themselves.
The last thing we need is lawyers breathing down the Chicken Man's throat about stupid shite we post. The end result would be detrimental to the fun,free-for-all experience that we enjoy on the OT.

Maybe not legally. But it seems like they really increased the likelihood of this Dyason lady being harassed.

Why so much fear over allowing this to come to a vote?

Cormier said that both Tammy and Carl Dabadie’s signature appears on the latest St. George petition as well, dated March 5.
Even the former Chief Of Police is ready to make St George a reality.
It's time, folks. With Lamont trying to kick Lea Ann Benton out as the parish atty for no reason, there's only one way EBR survives:
WITH St George.

Yes it’s public record and yes it’s probably legal. However, when signing a petition my assumption would be that the personal details would be used only for verification purposes.

Because it is obviously a better deal for the people living in the unincorporated areas.
The only way to keep it from happening is to intimidate people into not signing or make them think they'd be racist if they do.
Together Baton Rudge is a day late and a dollar short if they think ANY tactic of theirs will work to derail us.
They can call us racist, try to intimidate those that signed, say our taxes are going up...whatever desperate excuse they can think of...DOESN'T MATTER.
The only thing that matters is establishing the next great CITY OF ST GEORGE!

Exactly...the obvious race agenda with the current administration and parish council is appalling. Throw qualifications out the window...everything they do is 100% based on race. They don't even try to hide it!!
It's like FREE ADVERTISING for St George.

Some folks were reluctant to sign the petition due to stuff like this, but when it comes to a vote which is secret, they are all in.
Cormier, MOP, Banks, Cole, Broome and others are helping to get us over the finish line. I hope they keep it up.
And Tyson did the right thing. Good job.

Going all the way back to the first attempt at incorporating, Together Baton Rouge has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but further divide BR. I really think those behind the SG movement made a decision this time around to just let the other side show their true colors and further prove why we need our own city.

So my apologies but I'll need you to clarify here. You agree no one should be intimidated. I think we all agree on that.
In light of that collectively shared feeling:
1.) Do you agree that the person representing Better Together took this picture and then released it to the media and public in an effort to intimidate her?
2.) Do you agree that the person(s) at The Advocate who published this photo in concert with the publishing of this story did so in an effort to intimidate the signer?
3.) Do you think the timing of this photos release by the media and Better Together was in any way intended to influence the signer's attempt to obtain a leadership position in the School Board?
I get that you are just out to let us know it's a public document and that her name and info are all fair game. You're on the record. Just curious as to your answers to those questions.

Yes. I believe the photographer took the picture in an attempt to intimidate/shame/etc. the school board member.
I don’t really have an issue with the Advocate reporting on it, however, I doubt they will share the names of people “on the other side” of this issue that might have signed the petition. So yes, I believe there to be bias in their reporting.
The initial reply was made because the poster assumed there would be “trouble” for the photographer and/or reporter. I was simply correcting/clarifying that statement. As I’ve said, and others have as well, just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right or fair.
