Wasn’t there a guy named Hollywood something or something Hollywood on Z98?

Yeah, Ted "Hollywood Harrison" Kelly, I believe. I think that he is still in the Baton Rouge area.

Rice 'n Naze (Randy Rice and Danny "Jim Nasium" Simar...supposedly also called "Dr. Nanny") and sometimes Margaret Taylor. There was also "Weird" Wayne Watkins, "Brother Dave" Nichols, Mike McCarthy, Cecil Scott "Scotty Mac" Carwile, Gary Hail over there at WFMF-FM/WLSS-FM.

The Animal and Scotty Drake over at WLCS-AM.

The Tiger Morning Dudes (Steve and K.C.) on "100.7 The Tiger"...there were also Charlie and Buzz from the old WQXY days at that station.

Zia the Cat was on KLSU for a long, long time (seemed to be like an alumnus on the air of an otherwise student-run station).

Norman Nasty doing sports on news radio WIBR-AM/WNFO-AM. Buddy Songy used to call in to Norman sometimes I think and seems to have replaced Norman's show after Norman left the air.

I remember when 100.7 used to be WQXY, "The velvet sound of beautiful music" and they played elevator music.

I miss the days of Buddy Songy just reading an article out of the advocate while eating a poboy, and then having a lengthy talk about Manda Fine Meats.

I remember a guy named Kowalski that played the best rock in the’70s.
I think he got run out of town by DA Ossie Brown because of some controversial stuff he said on the air

Around 1970 Kowalski was a very young 19-20 year old DJ on I think WLCS. He was a hoot. One of the first I heard reading the news and cracking jokes about it. Got fired for it and moved to another local station like WJBO.

He used to host shows at Thunderbird Beach IIRC as well.

I always wondered what became of him.

when wjbo was a cool rock music station they would play cool music in the background while the news was on, maybe even commercials

The funniest thing I ever heard on Baton Rouge radio was a guy with a heavy Brusly/Plaquemines area accent called into Buddy’s show and kept calling him pu**y repeatedly. Mascona was the producer or something at the time and Buddy started freaking out yelling at him. “Scone! Scone! What or you doin!? Cut heem off! Cut heem off, Scone!”

WWL used to be owned by Loyola University, hence the L. That didn't stop them from selling 15 minute blocks of time to radio preachers, some of whom explicitly ranted against the Catholic church. They started when the local programming went off around 10 and lasted until the Road Gang came on at 12 or 1. Fire and brimstone and good ole truck driving songs would keep you going during an all nighter. Now it's Dave Ramsey all night. Sad!
