BR was a nice place to live in the 80s and some of the 90s. The public schools going downhill pushed the middle class families out to the burbs (or elsewhere). There are still nice parts of the city, but it's not like it was 30 years ago for sure.

As someone who lives in the PNW, the libs are 50x more tolerable than the ghetto trash you see at every single corner in the South. The homeless aren’t remotely as dangerous for that matter either

No.
Merle was the name of another barber that cut hair in the Park Forest area.

Happens in Houston all the time too. In fact it happens in cities all over the country. Why are you surprised?

Do you remembered further down Greenwell Springs road there was a mentally handicapped boy that used to be chained to cement bench waving at traffic?

Sounds crazy, but I vividly remember it. I rode the bus home from Istrouma Middle Mafnet and he would see him out there many afternoons.

I expected the new mayor to come in and make some radical changes, but it's seemed like the new boss is the same as the old boss so far.

I don’t know if they’ve told Sid yet that he won.

Even for its charms, I will be leaving Louisiana. Don't worry, I won't let the door hit me.
We left in 2020. Got the frick out of the filthy shite hole and moved to New Smyrna Beach Florida. (Haven't looked back)

I miss LSU and my Po-Boys, but we'll survive.

The "Quality of Life" here is far superior, like another dimension almost, in every aspect of living.

As for BREC, the change in the composition of the board will be the most positive change for the Baton Rouge area in years. BREC is an unmitigated disaster and a blackhole of taxpayer money. I can’t believe anyone who lives in the EBR would oppose these two changes (other than library and BREC workers lining their pockets).

I help run a local sports club who has tried to work with BREC in matters pertaining to our sport. We have volunteers lined up waiting to help improve the parks we use. It’s been three years since we approached BREC and have received nothing but gaslighting. Meanwhile participation levels at their parks has now moved on into Livingston

BTW Livingston parks (Denham and Walker) are infinitely better that any other park services in this region

I don’t remember that kid. I too went to IMMS from 84-87. There were 3 kids with disabilities that lived on my street in PF. One of them would get off his bus and stop and pee in the front yard before going inside most days.

Look at the demographics of Baton Rouge. Now go look at cities with similar demographics. I bet they are slums also. Funny how that works. Yeah yeah I know….this is racist. Guess what? I do not care. You cannot argue against facts.

We(EBRP voters) voted to fund the library and BREC, separately from the rest of the CityParish. If the City Parish has funding problems, they should either cut services or pass a tax to fund what they think we need, not steal from the library or BREC. Hiller Moore just tried this and it failed. So maybe they need to cut services.

Is Oscar still around? I used to go there in my youth. Mr. Sam or Oscar would always cut my hair.
