I know one of them on here. A family friend who left the Priesthood to marry a female who I believe was a Nun who left the church as well...If the allegation towards him is true I would 100% shocked, and I doubt it would be a male.

The list is based on the review of all 1033 clergy personnel files of the diocese of Baton Rouge from its formation in 1961 to the present
So after the 60’s-80’s was like wildfire, we’re expected to believe that they shut it down except for one guy in 2002?

not so fast, Bishop, Catholics hired the investigators

This is my concern. I’ve read, somewhere, that the church implemented new checks and systems to screen out potential predators, but I have no idea what they are or if they actually work.
All ordained ministers, lay staff, and any volunteer that comes in contact with minors has to go through background checks and annual training on how to spot signs of abuse (physical, sexual, etc.), how to report any suspected abuse, and (most importantly) the ramifications should you remain silent if you suspect any abuse.

But, I don’t think things will change until you allow preists to marry.
I don't think that would solve anything related to the rampant abuse in the 60's and 70's. What happened then was the result of the baby boomer growth of the US...and the demand for more priests in the seminary. Admissions and education became more lax, and at the time homosexuality was still not very public. It, unfortunately, was the perfect place for these types of abusers to hide.

That is a lot of people. The Catholic Church had a major problem. I think the percentage estimated in Spotlight was 6-7% of priest were predators. That may be low.

37 of 1033 = 3.6%

I wish I woulda gotten diddled. I wouldn't have minded all that much and could have taken one for the team to protect a whiny bitch boy who would have been all traumatized.
Plus I may have gotten a decent settlement for chugging holy goo all the time

Their will be many reading this thread that were abused by those named, and yet to be named. I feel bad for them.
I also feel bad for the ones like Oweo that the priests all turned down, on multiple occasions.
Here's to all of you.

I grew up going to St. Aloyisius and 3 of those offenders worked there, 2 of which had abuse reports at that location.
fricking sickening.
David William Chaloux
Bryan Keith Gray
Clyde Bernard Landry
Landry appears to be a particularly awful piece of shite:
Number of Allegations: More than One
Assignments at times of abuse: Holy Family, Port Allen, LA; St. George, Baton Rouge, LA;
St Aloysius, Baton Rouge, LA; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St.
Francisville, LA
Dates of Abuse: Between 1970s-1980s
Dates Report Received: 6/30/1988, 2002 and 2004
Action Taken: Resigned from Pastorate 1988 and placed on leave. Left Diocese
of Baton Rouge in 1990 to work for the Servants of the
7
Paraclete in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. Formal leave granted
and priestly faculties removed in 1999.
So they had multiple reports and he still worked in the church for decades. What the frick.
Unfortunately he's dead so we can't beat his old body to death in the town square.

Sorry but I have to call bullshite on this. No offense but I hear this quite a bit and it's is totally illogical.
First people that fondle and molest children have a problem going on in their heads that having sex with an adult female is not going to solve.
If all these priest were being caught in whore houses and strip clubs you might have an argument but priests getting married is not going to fix what ales the church.

Nick Martrain, lol. Was a priest when I was an alter boy.
After he got booted, he married some chick and his step kids played basketball. I watched him get thrown out of the Woodlawn gym for obnoxiously harassing the refs. It was embarrassing. The dude obviously had some pent up anger.

37 that we know of...

If you actually look at the list. All but one was removed from the priesthood by the diocese immediately following the date of their first credible allegation...all of which were prior to the 2000's. The only one that wasn't removed immediately was done so three years later following the second allegation.
While it doesn't excuse the behavior of these Priests...it's pretty clear that the Diocese of BR wasn't a "safe haven" for them like others where Priests were just transferred to another parish when allegations arose.
No, what you see is the list of priests that were removed. What is left off the list is priests who were accused but remained.
The Catholic Church always does shite like this. They reveal only the portion of the offenders they actually did something about to make it look like they are always taking proper action.

The first report was received in 1988 and he was removed from the parish assignment in 1988 and placed on leave.

You’re right, it wouldn’t have any retroactive affects, but it could prevent future predators from becoming preists. There are many men who would like to be preists, but don’t because they want to have a family. So, that in and of itself shrinks your pool of potential applicants. Which, makes room for predators who don’t care about marriage or making a family in the first place.

I understand this point, but I think that's a giant leap given how strict seminaries are now.

The larger prevailing issue to me is that they were hidden/protected for so long. It legitimately turned into a pedophilia ring where they'd just relocate priests they knew were molesting children instead of calling the police.

Correct. I'm not making excuses for any of the actions, or lack of action Dioceses took from the 60's - 00's...

And still worked in the church, like I said. Who knows what he did to children from 1990-1999 in New Mexico.
Why didn't they call police to investigate?
I fricking hate people that have an ounce of understanding for the way the Catholic Church handled any of this.

Name another organization that had 37 of its 1,000 leaders been accused of sick stuff and it would still be standing. Hats off to the Catholic Church and its water carriers.
