If it’s something happy, ie not a funeral, then don’t buy a black suit unless you want to look like a dork

Do we no longer do dark suits for evening weddings in the south?

I am good at many things. Fashion is not one of them.

Formal weddings are tuxedo. Not formal is navy or grey suit for traditional. Patterned can be worn at less traditional

Dark suits are fine and fitting for the occasion. Black suits will be worn by the people serving the cocktails, dinner, and passing Hors d'oeuvres (nothing wrong with that, I use to be one of them). You can go dark, just stay away from a true black for a better, more versatile look.

A solid black suit is fine for a funeral or if you’re a Brother of the Sacred Heart but outside of that navy/dark grey is more appropriate.

If you don’t wear your suit every week, Men’s Warehouse is probably your best bet, given your timeline. They have access to a hell of an inventory and can alter your suit in a couple of hours once they receive it. I was in a similar situation and they came through for me just fine.

Given your timeframe,I honestly wouldn’t wast time going anywhere else.

Unless you have a catering gig I would suggest you find the darkest grey you can find- or a deep charcoal or navy blue.

This.

Lost a bunch of weight and lost track of time and need a black suit in a week and a half. Nothing fancy is needed. It’s been a long time since I bought a suit.

Since it appears that you have no consistent need for a suit, go to Dillards Clearance in Slidell and get you one cheap. Then take it to your local Asian tailor and they will fix it right up for you.

And as others have said, Black suits are almost never the correct suit to wear.

The correct answer is Tuxedos to Geaux in Metairie. Suit with shirt and tie $179, with a vest $199.

Lifetime alterations included., good selection, quick turnaround if you go during the week. Weekends are busy.

You’re not allowed to wear a black suit after the age of 12

Tuxedos to Geaux in Metairie. Great selection of black, grey, and navy suits. The people that own it are great people. They do Same day alterations and free alterations for life.

Shop local. Always.

A part of Limited Brands, which also owns Men's Warehouse.

I wouldn't buy black if there is any, any other option. Dark Grey, anything. You could hit Suit Supply for their Havana line, designed for hot weather, so you'll be able to wear it more than 3 months out of the year.

But go now, tailoring, which you will 99% need, with take three or four days. Or you can look like shite in a flour sack, your choice. But if you've lost weight, we wouldn't want the flour sack look would we?

I am mid 40s, i used to wear suits all the time.. now i own two suits (one tan, one gray fwiw) that i bought ten years ago.. haven’t worn a tie in over 5 yrs.. my goal is to never buy a suit again as long as i live, good health willing and the creek dont rise .. maybe once the suits I own are worn to the threads, i can make do at funerals in my later years with a nice blazer and some dress shoes or something .. then again, ive seen plenty of people in my time show up at funerals in jeans, maybe ill just give up and be one of those guys .

Belk is the new Stein Mart. They have everything including suits from $150-$250 depending on sales, dress shirts $20-$40, ties, shoes, etc.
Closest to Nola is northshore.

Close. Tailored Brands owns Jos A Banks and The Mens Wearhouse. Very similar inventory but you're much more likely to get solid help at a Jos A Banks. The Mens Side hires anyone while the JAB side has historically focused more on hiring people that make a career out of selling suits.

Jos. A Bank is not a bad option in this situation. I’ve had some success in a similar situation there.

Men’s Wearhouse caters to a different demographic.

Also I echo the no black to a wedding sentiment. Dark grey or Navy is more suitable.
