Been there, done that. Ran out of gas approaching the Bullard Rd. exit in New Orleans East (not the place you want to get stranded). Threw it into neutral, coasted the exit, right onto Bullard, U-turn at the light which was luckily green, then into the gas station right up to the pump. Perfection.

It should be a fineable offense to run out of fuel on a paved driving surface.

I coasted into a Florida toll on the way to some wakeskate contest in Tampa.
Toll dude was asleep. He was rattled when I stared the car again.
A rental.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Coasting in neutral is the way.

You can easily go 28 miles on a 0 mile warning.

Many years ago, I pretty much performed that same maneuver, almost identical traffic situation after busting the serpentine belt on my 2007 Silverado. I think for a minute I turned into the Hulk .... LOL

For me, the part that stuck out as fake was him having that much momentum after crossing the median. He was almost dead in the middle of the road but still coasted for like 200-300 foot with energy to spare.

I haven't run out of gas since the 80's, but I haven't been broke since then either.
