Once had a contractor bungle my gazebo in Kennebunkport. Just a harrowing ordeal. Thank goodness Stout’s men were able to rectify the situation!

One thing I learned on a bad job was get the bid in labor and materials and buy the materials yourself then pay the guy in labor. I got the bid and the guy had paid him and his guys and ran out of money on materials.

Since doing that I have found they don't blow their labor budget and I know I got the materials if I have to run them off.

Stories like this make me sick to my stomach. It should be pointed out that the homeowners have to take some of this blame. It isn't like they hired competent contractors and/or did their due diligence on who to hire. I'm willing to bet the homeowners for both of those videos called about 5 or more people for a quote and went for the one that that was too good to be true.

The lowest bidder is rarely the cheapest!

Am I the only one who finds it odd that heaven has gates? What kind of neighborhood is heaven in? What, do you die and you go to a gated community? Are the gates necessary? (Southern accent) Yeah, we had a lot of kids sneaking in using the pool. Those gates weren’t easy. We had to go down to hell, get a contractor and everything.

I'm thinking the homeowners try it themselves.

I charge 2500 for stand up showers and only pay 1000 which means, I get 1500 just in labor for coming out to your house. You pay it to because I have awesome installers.

Probably my favorite reality show ever was Adam Carolla’s “To Catch a Contractor”. Here’s a good one where they caught the same contractor for a second time: YouTube

I’ve been building homes for quite a few years now and have never had any sub do anything remotely close to that I’ve only had one incident of a shitty subcontractor and it was because my clients best friend owned a cabinet company and he wanted to use him for their cabinets. Against my better judgment I agreed. The guy built good cabinets but he was slow as frick and set us behind weeks. Nope, never again.
