Thanks for letting us know; now the rest of us can avoid wasting our time on it.

Just more proof that the baby boomers are scum

I always get a kick out of Millennials dogging Baby Boomers. They don't realize that they think and act just like the Boomers did when they were this age back in the 60's. I guess they can't (or won't) see it but as someone who sits between the two generations, it's pretty obvious.

Yes, it was. I read it and agreed; most conservative women would agree with that.

I'd assume there are more people now, but women arent jumping into marriage like they used to. So seems like the decrease is because people are waiting longer and finding more suitable partners. I could be wrong.

Wonder if we can find marriages numbers and see the percentage of people getting married now versus then.

simple math. the rate will probably be the same or close, when each generation has the same number of years under their belt. Gen X and Y are certainly not more moral than the Boomers.

Yeah I have friends that parents got divorced after 40 years of marriage. Us younger folk haven't been alive that long.

Is there anything this generation did right?

This board seems pretty big on blaming the parents for everything...wouldn't that logic dictate that we blame the "Greatest Generation" for ruining their Baby Boomer kids?

It's hilarious to me the people that have "read this chart" and think that Generation X & Y will somehow end up with a divorce rate less than the Baby Boomers.

My favorite is the belief that internet dating will be the END of divorce. Online dating has also lead to Tinder, and Ashley Madison, not to mention facebook and instagram creeping.

If my generation (X) does end up with a lower divorce rate it certainly won't be because we understand how to use statistics.

The rates for gen x and y are currently less than the rates for the boomers, are you expecting an uptick in divorces for gen x around 30 years?

I think part of the reason is both generations x and y are waiting to get married later instead of getting married right out of high school. We go to college, go through our "slutty phase" and we marry people we actually want to be with and not just because of appearances.

This is the most logical response ITT.

reason divorce was so high in the 70s and 80s was b.c of sex before marriage. in the 60s, the sexual revolution happened but lots of woman/men didn't participate. They wanted sex so they got married and had sex, b.c those were the value their parents instille din them. And then boom, they realize getting married so you could frick was an epically bad move.

Yeah....
With that logic, wouldn't the divorce rate always been as high?

It's like you people haven't even seen the chart. The divorce rate is categorically lower for the people married in the 60's.

The 90's is on one heck of an up-tick right now too, and there's clearly not enough data on people married after 2000.

The chart shows that the sexual revolution actually hurt marriage which is contrary to what you are currently stating.

go through our "slutty phase"

Is this the phase where you shack up with one or more partners essentially leaving us with undocmented marriage and divorce? The same phase that leaves us with unwed mothers living off the gov't tit and their kids to deal with the same situations old fashioned divorce does??
