Is there anything this generation did right?
Showed us not how to treat a marriage

The way this chart reads to me is the longer you stay married, the higher your chances of getting divorced are

That's exactly how it reads. But is that really new news to you?

I mean. Am I missing something?
People are acting like divorce is decreasing but according to this chart the majority of divorces are after 30 years of marriage and the trend is still going towards that, it's just marriages in the 1990s and 2000s havent got to that stage yet..

Not surprising, considering how greedy the Boomers are.

The curve is below the other curves at the same length of marriage, implying a lower divorce rate.

I often wonder this myself. For how unbelievably badass and cool the vast majority of WWII generation people are, on the whole the great majority of their kids are just such preening narcissistic arse wipes.
Maybe the skills and personality to be a good soldier and the skills and personality to be a good parent don't necessarily overlap? (inb4noshit

The so called greatest generation created warfare on a level not seen in world history. Actually, their parents (the WW1 generation) kicked it off. The Baby Boomers in the western world benefited from American economic hegemony after WW2 and were spoiled rotten. They were also told from birth how great and deserving they were. It created narcissism probably not seen before in world history. Their children (the Millennial or selfie generation) are going down the same road. Spoiled little self important pricks. Look no further than hipsters.

That's where I'm at. Saw a shitty childhood and didn't want history repeating itself. Dec. 29th will be 30 years.

These categories are so artificial. My GF was a late in life baby born to parents of the WWII generation. My parents came of age in the late fifties/early sixties. Our childhood experiences were completely different, yet we're supposed to be part of the same generational cohort

Not so. There still isn't enough years in their curve to make a fair comparison. Only history will be able to prove this theory out.
Question: Boomers didn't shack up anywhere close to later generations. Society dictated that they get married. How does this factor into a time where cohabitation is very normal, (spoiled) kids are living at home longer sponging off of their parents and premarital sex is commonly excepted? Can someone add in the number of X-ers and Y-ers that shack with one or more people prior to marriage? Is this not a form of divorce?

DISCLAIMER:
I think these generational arguments are stupid, for the record
Here's some stats to mull over. Not trying to say anything one way or the other, was just reading about this the other day and thought it fit in the thread.
quote:
Baby Boomers: This generation has the highest average balance on its credit cards ($5,347) and the highest average number of credit cards (2.66)
quote:
millennials average debt is $23,332 and their average balance per credit card is $2,682 -- both below the overall national average.

quote:This is the correct answer. I guarantee you that the average age of people getting married is older than previous generations.
I think part of the reason is both generations x and y are waiting to get married later instead of getting married right out of high school. We go to college, go through our "slutty phase" and we marry people we actually want to be with and not just because of appearances.

Ah yes, the monthly thread where the morons blame the world's ills on the baby boomers.
Enjoy your circle-jerk. Or better yet, STFU and go to work.
