Well, one of them is responsible. I think the other one has gumballs for brains.

No.....and the proof lies in the fact that WE made all the Gen Xers and Yers so it's our fault.

possible reasons why...?
1. more college educated population than ever before
2. getting married later in life (27 avg age for men)
3. more unwed couple than previous generations

This.
My parents got divorced when I was 3, as a kid I went through all the damn custody battles, visitation bullshite, and my parents really just hating each other. Now that I'm grown and gone through that once involuntarily, I refuse to voluntarily go through it again on the other side.

1. Not sure how college translates there, but who knows
2. That definitely could be a factor.
3. Ding! Ding! I think we have a winner. So many live together for years before they wed. It is especially prevalent outside the south.
4. My idea, is less people get married, possibly due to #3 and may realize they aren't cut out to deal with someone else in their life constantly. Just my two cents.
For what it's worth I am one of those "old farts" that got married at 22 to a 19 year old and still going strong after 32 years. I guess I am in the glass half full of the divorce rate. Have a great day!!

It is the vast middle class responsible for most of those numbers. The poor are too poor to divorce. The rich too few to make much of a difference.
As the middle class continues to shrink so does the divorce rate.
Economic purchasing power in this country peaked right about at 1973...right at the same time divorce did.

Interesting numbers but I don't see "greed" in there as long as they are paying for it. I'd call any number above 0 as being stupid. That makes boomers more stupid than the rest.

Clearly you do not know how SS works OR you are just trying to get old folks panties in a wad. If it's the later by all means keep it up.

That is probably the case.
You could look at data for divorce rates, but that's still the previous generations' results...not this generation.
BBmer's could have gotten divorced an average of 3-8 years in a relationship.
Married people from the current generation haven't hit that gap, or they are indeed different and will set their own divorce statistic independent of the generation before them.

You guys are coming to conclusions based on a false pretense. The chart is misleading as it shows divorce rates after varying amounts of years. The only way to make fair comparisons is to draw a vertical line through the group with the fewest years and compare the percentages at that point.
In rough numbers:
Married in '60s - 12.5%
Married in '00s - 14.9%
Married in '90s - 16%
Married in '70s - 17.5%
Married in '80s - 17.5%
Someone born in '45 would probably get married in the '60s. Those born as late as '64 would be in the '80s. The average of the '60s, '70s, & '80s is around 15.8%. Statics always have a + or - % of correctness. This is pretty much a statistical draw and the premise is flawed. X & Y people can comeback and compare in 30 years.
Now it's time for me to go spend some of my SS income THAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE BECAUSE THE FED GOV'T FORCEFULLY TOOK IT FROM ME OVER THE YEARS.

As I pointed out above, there is no difference. This being the case I'd conclude the dumbasses that are following us aren't capable of learning from our mistakes.

Honestly, I think this has more to do with it than anything. We all knew kids that went through this and it appears to be one of the most devastating things parents can do to their own families. It's better to work harder on your marriage than to put your own kids through that.

I watched my mom and step dad go through a ugly divorce, I didn't get to meet my biological father till I was 18 and we didn't have a real relationship till my 40's. I watched my in laws treat each other like dirt and my aunt go through 7 husbands.
I have always been determined not to go through the crap they did, to treat my wife like I wanted to be around her, and to make sure my kids saw a better example than I saw.
