Despite hand-wringing about the institution of marriage, marriages in this country are stronger today than they have been in a long time. The divorce rate peaked in the 1970s and early 1980s and has been declining for the three decades since.

Is there anything this generation did right?

Honestly their kids seem to be learning how screwed up they were as they get older.

Maybe they just haven't had time to get divorced yet.

Nastier lawyers, easier escort possibilities, have forced/allowed men to endure more garbage.

It's because they watched their dads and moms treat each other like shite in the 50's and just assumed if they treated their spouses that way it would be cool.

Two reasons:

1. Our generation of men are either too weak and stupid to realize that their wives have taken their balls or too effeminate to care.

2. We watched the guys who went before us get reamed out and taken to the cleaners in court, and would prefer to live in quiet misery than poverty.

ETA: Only half joking.

False. Every trend and data point indicates it'll continue to decline.

Maybe IF way less people get married, but if the same % of Americans get married I think the same % will get divorced IMO but only time will tell.

Or maybe younger generations have better values than those before us.

Maybe it's because so many younger kids saw or lived the hell that divorce brings and decided to avoid that shite. I don't think I'd blame boomers- younger people still haven't had "successful" marriages, but I do think they've learned from their experiences.

I think part of the reason is both generations x and y are waiting to get married later instead of getting married right out of high school. We go to college, go through our "slutty phase" and we marry people we actually want to be with and not just because of appearances.
