It’s pretty sad that the districts that were considered among the best in the state in that timeframe (Ascension, Livingston, etc., IIRC) are celebrated for being dead average. Such a low bar in Louisiana.

And that average is based on recent test scores overall, right?
I'd like to know what that map would look like compared to average test scores in 1960. The entire map would be burgundy.

I’m surprised our students are only 3 grade levels behind. This is actually good news. I would have bet the over and thought it was closer to 6-8 grade levels behind.

I completely bought into that well into my mid 20's. I never even questioned it.

Most of this data is before the new reading initiative but man.. Mississippi is not doing great ( shocker)
Curious how a more recent map with new data would look .. minus the demographic adjusting like from The article from earlier today at how MS is leading the nation now in reading

compared to other midwestern states, michigan has a lot of purple in extremely white areas. interesting.
eta: also, Idaho appears to be full of dumb whites as well. and Washington and Oregon. What's going on in the PNW?

Not disagreeing with you but open the tweet and you can zoom in enough to see that the only green area in LA is Zachary.

2016 Presidential election
And for comparison:
So with the new exception of West Virginia, Nevada and some parts of the deep South, lower test scores vote Democratic. And with the exception of the Northeast, higher test scores vote Republican.
