I trust the vehicle's own monitoring system completely. It is miles better than any arbitrary mileage/timespan interval system, because it takes those into account already in addition to your driving habits. It knows how hard you drive, the temp, etc. Hell it might even measure particulates and moisture in the oil.

The only thing I trust more than the on-board computer is actually looking at the oil.

Fluid swap. Not power flush

The first is okay. The second invites trans issues.

Full synthetic -- 7500 miles. The filter loses efficacy faster than the oil.

The filter becomes more efficient up until the point that it bypasses.

Where do you people come up with this stuff?

I change my oil with full syn 0w40 or 5w30 depending on which mobil1 is on sale. I change the oil when I start to hear a little rattle on start up (sign it has sheared down). Usually, that's 10500 miles in the warm months. 9500 in the cold. Filter gets changed every 20k. 40-55k miles per year.

Oil analysis shows engine is in perfect shape coming up on 200k. And I hit Red line at least once a day, usually a few times.

Wive's tails often trump logical thought. There are many industries that don't consider a filter to be functional until it is seasoned.

I am surprised more people especially those that keep vehicles a long time don't do UOAs. For $28 Blackstone does a basic set of tests that give a lot of insight into your engine health AND helps you dial in your drain periods for your particular car/oil. While most people might have an issue with interpreting the data the good folks that frequent the bobistheoilguy forum are happy to help. I think every "man's man" should spend a little time there getting at least a basic education in engine/tranny lubrication and lubricants.

I vary drain intervals based on the engine, mileage and how the vehicle is used but I think a reasonable conservative blanket statement for "full synthetics" like Mobil 1 is 10K or 1 year. For a primarily highway driven car with a low cold start to milage ratio 15k or even up to 20k is generally fine but would not exceed the 1 year period. Once the oil becomes contaminated (basically from the first time the oil is used in a running engine) it begins to breakdown.

If you are using extended drains you have to make sure to check the oil level on a regular basis since ALL engine burn oil. If an engine does not burn any oil it is about the self destruct. You may not notice much change on the dipstick at 3k intervals but you very well may with extended drains.

IDK man, I sold my 2003 Trailblazer with 220k miles and the engine purred like a rolling kitten. I drive in Phoenix, so I tend to play it safe for oil life. It's fricking hot here and I go through extreme temps in the desert quite often.

Your mileage may vary of course.

According to all Chrysler/Jeep/dodge/ram products 1qt of oil per 1k miles is acceptable.

Refer to your owners manual not the sticker Jiffy Lube puts on your windshield.

Synthetic should be 8-10k miles

Synthetic is good for 10k miles at least

Eta - I go close to 20k, normally send an oil sample off at 15k. I know it makes people nervous going over 10 so that’s what I normally suggest to the weary.

New vehicles can go 10k between oil changes.

I go 10K before every oil change with synthetic. Been driving this vehicle for 80K miles now. Not one problem. Last truck I did the same and went 100 K before selling it. No problems there either.

I run full synthetic on mine and change it every 7500. I also get a larger filter than OEM for more filter surface area.

In most car circles, I am considered conservative with how frequently I change mine.
