Every sticker I've ever read: "Change oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months"

I live about a mile and a half from my job and could literally go 6-12 months without driving more than 3,000 miles.

Do I really still need to change it every 3 months?

FYI - it's full synthetic. So a follow up question would be how many miles can I go on full synthetic before having to change oil?

Maybe I shouldn't, but I just have a hard time believing the "I-try-to-upsell-you-on-everything" Jiffy Lube folks if I were to ask this and haven't needed to go to a full blown actual mechanic in a while.

Every vehicle I've had since like 2010 has had at least a 7500 mile interval on non synthetic.

Synthetic is good at least 5000 if not 7500 miles. And I’d say 6 months.

The old 3k or 3 months is about 15 years old at this point and probably even a hoax then.

OK - do I need to change it after a certain period of months? If I wait 8k miles, it might be a year and a half or two years...

Change it every 7500 unless your pulling a goose neck to and from work.

No but I would change it once a year, if you arent hitting the miles

ETA, if your car is still under warranty, dont go above the manufacture guidelines, which is probably a year as well

I change mine every 5-6k with regular oil and that takes me 9-10 months to put on my vehicle.

Just change it once a year, and you should be fine. It's not as if you're spending $1,000 per oil change.....

Context? Should I not have gone full synthetic? My car is 9 years old pushing 190k miles.

I will be the first to admit the most advanced thing I know how to do on my car is change my brakes.

EDIT: forgot how old my car was

regular oil needs changing every 6k miles not 3k, the 3k is just BS to make money off of you when in fact its only at its half life at that point

synthetic oil needs changing every 15k miles but the oil change places recommend changing it at 8k to make money off of you when in fact its only at its half life at that point.

the easy way is to do what i do, replace your oil and filter once a year with full synthetic, i rarely drive more then 10k miles a year in my truck so im well in the range of an early oil change even at once a year

PS - synthetic oil is the best oil you can use and well worth the price, thats why it lasts twice as long as regular oil, because it doesnt break down and wear out like regular oil

This seems too good to be true...if it is true, I am starting to sweat thinking of how much money I have wasted.

just check the oil. If it is all black then it is time for a change. If it is a bluish color then you are fine. I have an older car so I try to stay close to the 3500 mark. But I check it when I am getting close to see what it is looking like. I was having some issues and dude at jiffy lube recommended an engine flush. Did that and no more gunky oil. Don't do this tho unless you have older model car.

My jiffy lube guy is awesome tho. He would never upsell me.

I don't know about these stickers, but 5k miles has been the standard for about 2 decades and many can go 7500 as said.

It's always best to go by what the vehicle book says, especially while under warranty.

However, if you live in a dusty area, it should def be fewer miles.

Depends on the engine. What do you drive?
